This reviewer is finishing up Wednesday's leftovers, and he's indeed moved to tears. Tears of joy for the tastes, satisfaction, comfort and kindness imparted by a simple luncheon order. Is that even possible in 2025?
We may speculate that Green's PHX location, and Nami next door, were formerly some family's humble abode, residences where folks lived, laughed, and loved, while our ginormous metropolis blossoms in the Sonoran Desert. And the evidence shows: a cool second-story with a staircase for staff, about 3 parking spaces total (ride your bicycle or e-scooter) and state-of-the-art bathrooms that withstand some heavy inner-city foot-traffic here.
What ultimately prompted this reviewer to weep into the bowl of noodles? The finishing touches on a small paper cup of fruit: it wasn't custom printed, but perhaps inked up with black felt-tip just before being filled with luscious strawberries and pineapple. The design was truly a work of art, and it stopped this reviewer in his tracks at the opened fridge door, and sort of gazed, fridge releasing pure energy, and this reviewer imagined some unseen expediter who only needed about 30 seconds to produce something akin to Salvador Dalí's dinner cheques.
This reviewer had wandered in the front-door of Green New American Vegetarian, quite dazed and confused, and there was indeed a squeeze at the counter as many folks were ordering all at once, but this reviewer enjoyed the chill on the al-fresco patio, glorious weather, and cool ambiance. Perhaps we're outside Green's "target demographic", a bit too aged, tragically square, don't care about your concert flyers, but this one appreciates touches like the "TANSTAAFL" bumper sticker slapped at the apex of the Kitchen Portal behind the "counter girls". And there's like 4 flavors of Olipop in their fridge: have we died and gone to Heaven, or at least Portlandia? The tables, floors, and everything are far cleaner and funner than the ones in Portland, can personally vouch for this!
Green New American Vegetarian (with Nami, never neglect your Namis!) is a precious jewel in the crown of Central Arizona. They're growing, they're thriving, and they totally know what's up. BUT... you'd best slow yo' lil' SUV down, lest you miss the turn-off (or QR code) for this reviewer's all-time favorite...

Read moreI recently decided to eat a plant & Grain based food diet. I'm a Realtor, and I"m always on the road. So, I have been exploring all the different vegan and vegetarian restaurants in the Phoenix Metro area. Well, let me tell you why I finally decided to write a review about this awesome place. This is actually the 3rd time I've actually ended up here even though I was already seated at another Vegan Venue. I wanted to try something new, but I couldn't. So I put down the menu, and left because I had to go back to GREEN for my Artichoke and mock chicken salad.... I just had to have it again. "Thee Fighting Artichoke" Salad with artichoke, and palm hearts, Calamata olives, cucumbers, and tomatoes over fresh greens tossed in a creamy tahini lemon dressing and crunchy tortilla strips is my favorite. The first time I had it I didn't want nothing by veggies, but decided to try their "Blackened Mock Chicken". I didn't think I would eat it all. Yet, that was actually the thing that impressed me the most... OMG! The previous reviewer was right. It is amazing what they can do with Tofu... It looked and tasted just like chicken, but better. On this my 3rd time here, I decided to try another salad hoping it would have the same "Mock Chicken". I was disappointed when I saw it looked different, but the taste was amazing as well. It is definitely a close 2nd. As of today, this is officially my favorite restaurant. If you've been thinking about trying a vegan restaurant, but cannot imagine yourself eating without the taste of meat. You have to eat here. They have burgers, fries, buffalo wings, cheese-steak,burritos... I can guarantee you you will NOT be disappointed. Thank you Green for making my vegan experience...
