I have been a devoted patron of JL Patisserie for quite some time, often frequenting the establishment with family and friends at least three Sundays each month. My visits are usually marked by a consistent order, and I have introduced numerous individuals to this charming patisserie, always eager to share the experience.
Regrettably, over the past several months, Iâve encountered a troubling pattern of behavior that has left me disheartened and compelled to write this. On multiple occasions â six, to be precise â I have been met with an inexplicable level of hostility from one particular staff member. Her demeanor is persistently unfriendly, even bordering on rude. Each encounter leaves me feeling unwelcome and uncomfortable, a stark contrast to the warmth typically associated with JL Patisserie. Todayâs incident epitomized the issue.
My boyfriend and I both ordered the same meal: three scrambled eggs with toast and jam. A different staff member took our order with no issues, but this particular employee then intervened, stating that she âcouldnât give us six eggsâ and insisting that she had âother orders to fulfill.â Despite my clarifications â that we were two individuals each requesting three eggs, a standard offering â she persisted, insisting it was somehow unreasonable. I was left bewildered, especially given that fulfilling two separate breakfast orders, such as sandwiches, would presumably require equivalent resources and time.
Unfortunately, this is not an isolated instance. On another occasion, I ordered a large green tea and brought along my flask to reduce plastic waste. The initial staff member was more than willing to help, agreeing to fill the flask with the tea I had paid for. However, as soon as this same unfriendly employee began preparing the drinks, she approached me and brusquely stated, âI canât fill up your flask all the way; youâre just going to take all the tea, and I canât just give you all the tea.â I clarified that I only wanted the amount I had purchased, not a full flask. This interaction, like so many others, left me feeling unfairly scrutinized, as if my request was an imposition rather than a reasonable, environmentally friendly choice.
What I find most disheartening is not simply her refusal to serve us but rather the unpleasant energy she consistently exudes toward me specifically. I have always treated her with friendliness and respect, only to be met with an unyielding wall of disdain. The other staff members exhibit the kindness and professionalism one expects from an establishment of this caliber, which makes her behavior all the more jarring and, quite frankly, disappointing.
This experience has deeply soured my perception of JL Patisserie, a place I once eagerly anticipated visiting. After todayâs experience, I have decided I will no longer be returning. Upon sharing these incidents with my family, they too have chosen to take their business elsewhere. While itâs truly disheartening to think that an establishment Iâve supported so consistently now leaves me feeling unwelcome and burdened with unnecessary hostility, I cannot justify subjecting myself to such treatment on what should be a relaxing day.
In light of these repeated interactions, I sincerely hope that the management at JL Patisserie takes notice. It is a great loss to forgo a once-beloved destination, but itâs unreasonable to continue patronizing a place that fails to uphold even the most basic standards of hospitality. A change is...
Read moreAt the price point they're selling their products at, this place was mediocre at best. Absolutely disappointed since I thought the croissants would be done to perfection.
I got this as a takeout and ate them soon as I got home (which is about 5 minutes away so not much room for degradation in freshness) and briefly heated them in a mini oven.
If you're expecting to sell things at a whooping $6 per croissant, then I expect the quality to be perfect all around... however it isn't. It didn't rise properly in the center. Rock hard on the outside. The layers were thick and doughy, no softness. It was "hollow" because of the inconsistency in the layer separation and not "airy." The croissants were tough to chew in the center because the layers were thick.
The pistachio chocolate croissant was wet and goopy on the bottom from the pistachio filling. Barely any pistachio flavor, and was overwhelmed by sweetness and wetness.
The eclair choux was again thick and doughy. Didn't really feel like a choux, more like overbaked biscuits. Custard filling a bit too heavy, sweet, and thick for my liking but may be a favorite for some. The ganache on top was excellent though.
Not included in the photo, but their mini mango mousse cake was decent.
Overall I wouldn't come back... I come from a high COL city, and regularly visited a French patisserie who sells croissants for cheaper despite using all French imported ingredients, made with absolute perfection. Boyfriend was also very disappointed. I don't see a reason why JL's goods should be sold for higher when the...
Read moreWhen my family moved to North Central around eight months ago, I was thrilled to discover what appeared to be a gem of a café just down the street from my new home. JLP Café quickly became a weekly indulgence for my family, with their pastries a particular delight. This morning, however, I found myself contemplating Fa-me Café on the other side of the parking lot and even walked over to check out their menu but my loyalty to JLP steered me back for a quick bite to go.
I placed my order and was informed that it would be approximately 20 minutes for the food and coffee. Not a huge inconvenience, considering the moderate bustle of the café on a Sunday morning. But after 30 minutes had crawled by with no sign of our order, I went back inside and inquired about the delay. Within minutes I was handed my coffee and the wife's pastry and was assured the breakfast sandwich would follow shortly.
I waited helplessly as the minutes stretched into 50, and the realization struck with painful clarity: our order had been forgotten. My breakfast never materialized, and after hopping back in line and waiting another five minutes, I finally received a refund for the missing sandwich and left hungry. Regrettably, this wasnât a first-time fluke; it's at least the third such mishap.
The decline in both service and the quality of their offerings has extinguished my loyalty to JLP Café. With disappointments mounting, I will not hesitate to explore Fa-me Café or Elly's up across Camelback...
