About three years into our marriage, we packed up our family and moved to Titusville, PA to join the Salvation Army ministry.
At the time, I was doing well with keeping my weight off. I hadn't eaten anything sweet for a long time, and needless to say, my tastes had changed.
We stopped to eat at a local diner, and I got the best salad with a sweet raspberry vinaigrette for dinner. After dinner, I asked for the very tasty raspberry vinaigrette to go.
The next morning, I woke up excited about breakfast. I made French toast (one of my staples). I served our meal in our little townhouse, and Vanessa asked me, "What are you going to do with the vinaigrette?" I said excitedly, "Pour it on as a topping. It is very sweet and tasty." Vanessa didn't really say much and watched me drizzle the raspberry vinaigrette all over my French toast with glee.
I bit into the French toast and was hit with the most bitter taste I have ever experienced in my life. All the wonderful sweet raspberry flavor was gone, and my French toast tasted like straight-up vinaigrette.
My wife laughed at me, and I stated with passion, "Why didn't you tell me not to do that?" My wife said, "It wouldn't have done any good. You were going to do it anyway."
So today, on our 11th anniversary, I found a breakfast place that has redeemed the savory-sweet vinaigrette-style French toast that I created that morning.
Perk Eatery in Scottsdale, AZ makes a Wine Country French Toast—stuffed with French brie, topped with roasted red grapes, and red wine rosemary syrup.
It was way better than my raspberry vinaigrette from 11 years ago.
I recommend you go to Perk Eatery instead of trying to DIY this...
Read moreThis place was easily accessible parking. The entrance didn't seem to have a wheelchair accessible ramp clost that I could see. The restaurant was very clean inside, including the restrooms. The restrooms 🚻 were both either male/female accessible. I love this feature. The food was a solid okay. The items we tried weren't great or poor, it was okay. I had the turkey club with that Catalina dressing on it(which I didn't realize). I don't really care for the steak (slab type) style turkey. I like it thin. The sauce gave it a nasty taste to me. The other person in the party had an omelet she said it was average. We both got the home fried potatoes with grilled onions and peppers. This was awesome. The restaurant was very good-sized to handle a good business. They had a nice mix of tables and bothes. The service was ok. We had to track the waitress down for refills and any items needed. I don't like to chase my wait persons down. This is for your information to help make a decision on whether to try it or not. I would eat here again. However I wouldn't suggest this particular restaurant either. The staff seemed more interested in their side jobs than your service. It was about Noon when we arrived. Lunch time was in effect. This is a breakfast/lunch only restaurant. It opens at 6 am I think and closes at 2:30 pm. Good luck if you try it. Maybe ypu will have better experience...
Read moreI stopped by while looking for a place to have breakfast nearby. First of all, since my son is 7 years old, I wanted to order a kids size lemonade, but the server brought a kids cup and told me to order an adult size cup because it was too small. When I looked at the size, it was a baby size cup. Then you should prepare a kids size cup. They prepared a ridiculously small cup and ordered an adult size cup. What does this mean? And my daughter ordered pancakes, and since my child doesn't eat a lot, I asked the server what size the pancakes were, and she showed me the size with her hand, about the size of a CD. So I ordered two, but when I looked at the size of the pancakes later, I saw that they were extremely large pancakes, bigger than my head. I am truly at a loss for words. There was most of food left. How could a child eat two such large pieces? I felt quite bad because it seemed like the server was trying to increase sales by giving false information in order to get a lot of tips. Customers aren't stupid. If you will be serving drinks at Kids', make sure you have the correct kids size cups. Don't try to increase sales with false information. I feel pretty bad. Let's do business properly!! We are not stupid. You guy make so frustrated...
