San Salvador — Restaurant in Phoenix

Best pupusas in Phoenix! Pupusas as are my very favorite central American dish, I make the very well myself, I was taught some tricks by some kind Salvadoreños, but even my pupusas aren’t as good as these! I’ve had some the size of dinner plates and some as small as silver dollar hotcakes, these ones are about the size of a hotcake, and pretty thick, but not doughy in any way! It’s almost like they are slightly leavened they are so fluffy and delicious I could eat 30 in one sighting 😅. So savory and well seasoned and not the least bit oily or greasy! I had a cheese one which was immaculate, and the chicharron and cheese was excellent as well. I only wish they had a chicken one as well. The tamales are good and the platano plate as well. These ladies know what they are doing! The only thing I wasn’t used to was their salsa is more watery and non-tomato based like I’m used to with salsa roja, but the curtido was on point, and the empanada de platano was a nice treat after dinner. The food is good but, there is no justification for having to wait an hour for a couple of Pupusas. The tamales are ready made also so, again, no reason for the wait. I no longer bother with ordering over the phone also because both times, my order was somehow not taken.
