I’m gonna start by saying they should stop advertising “Chicago style” as the food is not Chicago style in my opinion. Especially the baked Mac and cheese.
I ordered a bucket of tips which included fries and bread (as stated on their menu). We got a tray not a bucket so that was misleading.
The tips were burnt and cut so thick that they seemed more like a rack of ribs. The ribs taste like turkey ribs, just a odd taste in general.
Then the fries that were included they forgot to put in the bag so we had to drive back to get after waiting over an hour for our food already so that was disappointing especially considering that no courtesy gesture was given of any sorts for the inconvenience.
Only to get home and the ribs barely to have sauce on them and were now warm.
The “ Baked Mac and cheese” is a 8oz cup priced at $4.99 not only is it over priced for it to taste store bought, it looks nothing like baked Mac and cheese. In all seriousness they know damn well they don’t serve that kinda baked mac and cheese at the thanksgiving table at home and call it “soul food” it just ain’t NO WAY!
This I was very annoyed by because yet again it’s misleading when the Mac and cheese is advertised as baked and they advertise being a soul food restaurant. Google soul food baked mac and cheese I guarantee you it looks nothing like what you are given here.
In all honesty I was very excited to try a place that reminded me of back home (Chicago). I’m just overall disappointed. From the wait time, what I got for the price I paid, the customer service, the food overall was not good.
In my opinion it is not even close to Chicago style as they advertise on tik tok and in their name “taste my city”. If you are going to rep Chicago you gotta come better than that food wise at least. I understand this isn’t a fast food restaurant so its going to take some time but over an hour is a bit excessive and if it takes that long at least make sure everything is correct again just as a courtesy for the time waited.
My suggestion would be to do better on wait times & customer service and find a way not to burn the ribs that someone is paying nearly $33 and lastly, if your gonna charge $5 for baked Mac at least take the time to make it authentic. I paid about $40 for everything total. Overall...
Read moreExperience the vibrant flavors of my city, where the owners proudly hail from Chicago, infusing their culinary creations with a touch of their hometown pride. During my visit, we delved into a lively discussion about the ultimate pizza debate: deep dish versus thin crust. This spirited exchange not only highlighted the passion that the owners have for their craft but also set the stage for a meal that felt both familiar and comforting. The food here exudes a home-cooked vibe, reminiscent of meals straight from your mom's kitchen, where every bite tells a story of love and tradition.
As I savored the catfish, I was struck by its perfect seasoning, which brought out the natural flavors of the fish while adding a delightful kick. Accompanying this dish was the potato salad, crafted with a mustard base that was just the way I love it—vibrant yellow and deliciously tangy. Each forkful was a reminder of summer barbecues and family gatherings, evoking a sense of nostalgia that made the meal even more enjoyable. The wings, fried to perfection, were crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, adding to the delightful experience and leaving me craving more.
To top it all off, the ambiance of the restaurant was enhanced by a carefully curated soundtrack of classic old-school tunes, creating an inviting atmosphere that made me feel right at home. The combination of great food, engaging conversation, and nostalgic music made for an unforgettable dining experience. I wholeheartedly encourage you to show your support for this hidden gem in the city; it’s a place where culinary passion meets heartfelt hospitality, and every visit feels like a...
Read moreMy brother, in his infinite love for family and food stopped by this amazing spot to pick up their cornbread to go along with his homemade chili last night. The good Lord smiled upon us - because to everyone’s delight - the cornbread was simply phenomenal! It was hot and fresh out of the oven and incredibly scrumptious! The food was so good that family member began to turn against family members - mom became irate when I tried to go for round two - and nearly disowned the grandkids for asking for more cornbread. My brother had to wait for my mom to turn her head so that he could sneak a few pieces in my to-go container to take home to my hubby who was away on business. Fast forward to tonight - I warmed a piece of cornbread in the microwave for my husband - and as the cornbread melted into his mouth and he used his spoon to anxiously scape a few crumbs from his plate- he couldn’t help but inquire - “Don’t I get another piece?? This is excellent!!” I had to break the sad news - I only had that single piece remaining and added that giving him that piece was a huge sacrifice of love on my part. But alas, sometimes sacrifice isn’t enough … sometimes a man just wants more food in his belly! The old adage of “the way to a man’s heart is through his belly” definitely reigns true in this situation - so I offered to go purchase some additional cornbread tonight! So grateful this spot is local! I have a feeling that this spot will be my new secret weapon for great cornbread like grandma used to make and of course the ultimate go-to when my hubby wants a happy tummy! Can’t wait to try the Mac n’ cheese and the banana pudding! God Bless...
