Please know that as I complete this other than 5 star review, Carolina's was packed with people waiting to order. So, there is definately a true following and many like this place.
That being said, what I did like was the price and everything seemed to be made in house. What I didn't like, the food IMO was on the bland side. The restaurant style is counter service and there were some tables for sitting in the back. It is a very old place and we were ok with that. When you picture a "hole in the wall" type restaurant, this is it.
The signs on the wall said they were famous for home made tortillas. We didn't try any and wished we did so we could say we really liked something.
I really enjoy Mexican food and love the flavors in them. Unfortunately, I did not find them here. My wife and I both agreed although we weren't dissatisfied with our food, we probably would not go back. I got a number 3 combo and my wife got a number 7. I usually take detailed photos of my entrees, but in this case a photo would have done a disservice as everything comes in Styrofoam box.
In conclusion, if you're looking for quick authentic no frills Mexican food at a decent price, this is your place. If you want to sit and eat chips and salsa while your hot plates are prepared in the back to be brought out sizzling, this is not...
Read moreCarolina’s has been my go-to Mexican restaurant in Phoenix for over five years now, and I can confidently say their green chili burrito is one of the best in the city. It’s a staple, packed with flavor, always fresh, and it hits the spot every single time. There’s something about how they prepare it that keeps me coming back. If you know, you know. It’s one of those dishes that’s stood the test of time, and I’m glad it’s still on the menu.
The inside seating area is actually really nice, clean, and welcoming. Whether you’re grabbing food to go or sitting down for a meal, the vibe inside always feels just right. It’s casual, but you can tell they put effort into keeping it comfortable. It’s a solid spot for lunch or dinner with family or friends. The staff is friendly too, never had a bad experience with customer service. They keep the line moving and always treat you right.
Now, I’ll admit the parking lot could definitely use some love, it’s a little rough. But luckily, you’re not there for the parking. Once you’re inside and have that burrito in front of you, you forget all about the potholes. All in all, Carolina’s is a Phoenix classic, and I’ll keep coming back for as long as they keep doing what...
Read moreI don't believe in being rude or crude, but after our experience, this review is straightforward and honest. The most horrible experience with RUDE employees and disgusting food.
This morning my sister ordered two breakfast burritos, one was chorizo, and the other was manchaca. The so-called manchaca burrito had no meat, was soggy and falling apart, and I couldn't find the meat. It had boiled potatoes with eggs and it looked like vomit. (Photo below) This is the photo and since it was falling apart, I split it more to look for meat. I could not eat this, it looked disgusting. The chorizo burrito looked fine but it didn't taste like chorizo after one bite, my sister couldn't eat it either. Both burritos went to the dogs. The $19.55 price for both disgusting burritos, is a shame that this is what people are getting for the high prices that are being charged, including poor service. Service: My sister called the restaurant as soon as we saw the burritos and spoke to a female whose response was exactly, "What do you want me to do about it ". Not only was she rude, and crude, but unprofessional. I will never recommend this place to anyone, and we will never go back. Disgusting food and...
