This has been one of our favorite spots to visit, and we’ve even started inviting my husband’s colleagues here for drinks and dinner. So, writing this review was a bit difficult, as was experiencing our first disappointing visit.
I ordered a taco salad, and my husband ordered smoked wings with no sauce (sauce on the side). Unfortunately, my taco salad didn’t taste like a taco at all, the meat was noticeably unseasoned. I still ate it without complaint (until now, as I dislike sending food back).
My husband, who has been an executive chef with over 25 years of experience in the restaurant industry, is always patient and understanding when dining out. However, when his smoked wings arrived covered in sauce despite his request for none, he politely pointed it out to the waitress. She apologized and took them back. Less than five minutes later, she returned with a new plate of wings, but they looked exactly the same. As my husband put it, "It looked like they just rinsed the sauce off and threw them in the fryer."
The waitress assured him they were freshly made, but he wasn’t convinced. He sent the second plate back and decided not to eat, choosing instead to finish his beer. I continued with my taco salad, and he quietly finished his drink.
What stood out most was that neither the manager nor the chef came over to address the issue. Given my husband’s experience as both a general manager and executive chef, he expected someone to acknowledge the situation, whether to explain how the smoked wings are typically prepared, offer an alternative dish, comp his beer, or simply apologize. None of that happened.
We are not rude people; in fact, we have the utmost respect for the restaurant industry because my husband understands firsthand the hard work that goes on behind the scenes. The waitstaff was friendly, but the lack of managerial involvement was disappointing. For the first time ever, my husband chose not to leave a tip, not as a slight to the waitress, but as a reflection of the management’s inaction.
Our only advice: A good manager should be present and engaged. Check on your customers, ask about their experience, and step in when an issue arises. That kind of attentiveness ensures that no one leaves feeling like they wasted their time at a place that doesn’t value good service...
Read moreWhat happened to you guys tonight? My wife and I went to visit your location on Chandler Blvd. tonight 9/15/18. Our server was nice and attentive but, lacked the knowledge (I will get back to that). My wife ordered the Bacon and Blu burger which is usually delicious, medium. When it came out it had 4 pieces of blu cheese (yes, I counted because there were that few), onions that were a mix between raw and grilled, and it was well done. Now I know burgers change while they are waiting to be served but, this went from well to very well done and I'm not quite sure how to mess up grilled onions but, kudos. So, we hate complaining but we had to at this point. Our server Steve was apologetic and offered a side of blu cheese crumbles which would have been nice for a salad not melted all over and mixed in which it usually is when you order it. Then we decided to cut our losses and order another drink. Now, when you ask a server "process wise what is between well tequila and Patron." and they suggest Don Julio one would think that this drink would be between $5.50 and $7.50. Tops. So, we get our bill and our two Don Julio drinks are $19.00. Seriously? Which, would then mean that Patron (which everyone who has ever been out knows is more) would start at $10.50 and go up. I know Ahwatukee is nice and all but, it's not NYC, Vegas, or LA prices. When I inquired about how much a Patron shot was he stated "I don't know, $8.50". I showed him our bill and he said "I don't know, I just press the button". When I requested to speak with the manager he said she was really busy but, I could wait by the bar. Come to find out that the only manager on a Saturday night during an ASU game, UFC, and your supposed karaoke night was the one person tending bar. Wow. I stayed as long as I could but, then had to leave because she was still speaking with other patrons stating that she could not help them because "she didn't want to be fired". Which screams I'm a manager. As a long time customer I expect a call or at the very least a response back regarding this egregious failure in customer service. Thank...
Read moreBeing in Arizona for about 25 years now and living in the east valley a majority of the time, Dos Gringos in Mesa was my staple of life. They were family (RIP Maggie) and it hurt the county losing such an iconic place. I moved to Chandler a lil over a year ago and have been in search of a "cheers" bar that wasn't run into the ground or full of locals that stare at you daring why you would enter "their" place. I was apprehensive at first with Tukee's as didn't know what to expect but me and some friends hit it up one night for the guy's night out for drinks and apps. I will say I was very impressed. Yes, they have some of the best wings in the state, atmosphere was good, staff friendly and attractive, and prices where on point. We made it a point that we would frequent the place when we got chances. Both friends being married and me the only single one, chances a slim but we make the most of them. We all met up during the Kentucky Derby which was broadcast with other sports (I tried to get the Michigan game on last time but no Big10 network), and this time it full family mode...10 plus with kids and such and again, food rocked, staff was AMAZING with the large group and me having a coupon sent to me they had trouble dealing with but was told "we got you" and they did. Enough stuff to keep the kids entertained for a minute while grown-ups drank and conversed. Food and pricing on point, entertainment on point, and i see this becoming a possible new staple. Rambling aside pros and cons below...
PROS -staff -food -atmosphere -price -specials (they have nightly events too! Karaoke challenge on Saturday night anyone???)
CONS -place is small but matter is not helped by WAY WAY too many tables crammed in making it almost uncomfortable especially if you have to get up to go to the bathroom -some the the seating needs a lil refresh with a torn chair or bench.
I will say both times gone it has been crowded, and staff was still on point. I'll end it with, I'll see you soon! Check it...
