This rating is primarily for the quality and flavor of the food. I love to try new places and find things that are better than your run-of-the-mill chain restaurants. Unfortunately, Yi's definitely doesn't live up to the hype of its ratings. The short version of this review is this: you can get better food at Panda Express (which is just an average example of Chinese food).
Here's the breakdown of the dishes my wife and I tried: Mongolian beef: surprisingly bland with a weird pepper/jerky flavor.
Orange chicken: this was the best menu item we tried, but it still wasn't that great. It was seriously lacking in flavor, and the sauce can best be described as a savory sauce with a hint of sour to give the impression of fruit juice. It was very disappointing, but the crispy exterior was a redeeming factor.
Chow mein: This was missing its characteristic smokey flavor that should be present if you pan fry it in a wok. This, too, was a huge disappointment.
Fried rice: This is the most bland fried rice that I have had to this date. I would, not recommend this.
Spring rolls: Soooo soggy. What happened? Other reviews have mentioned the sogginess, and they were right.
In the end, this place is kind of a dive. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, given the area in which it is located. I was just hoping to be pleasantly surprised, but that won't be...
Read moreFirs time at this establishment. The lady at the front was nice and fairly easy to communicate with. I ordered the general Tsao chicken...texture was nice but, the chicken tasted like it was swimming in an pool of overly sweet sauce. We also ordered the sweet n sour chicken. The item was pretty decent and, seemed to be made with all white meat chicken. Nothing too epic about the batter that it comes fried in though. The 2 times purchased came with a huge plate of fried rice and an egg roll...typical standard stuff for a combo plate. Rice was decent and, the egg roll was the usual. Prior to our entree we ordered steamed dumplings. The dumplings had good flavor but, like warm and did not match the image displayed in their menu board...as a matter of fact, nothing really matched the pics in their digital menu display. Prices for items are standard so, sticker shock should not be an issue. When I chose this place it was due to the star ratings...4.7...this is a real mystery...I would give it maybe 2 stars out of 5. The place is literally a hole in the wall joint which is ok but, dirty, sticky tables and nowhere to throw away your trash makes it not very desirable. My overall opinion is: No thanks but, you be the judge...
Read moreI have no idea how people have allowed this place to get 5 stars. The food i received from here is some of the worst chinese that I've ever had. The delivery food was still hot, so that wasn't an issue at all. The issue was the quality and flavor. The sauce of the orange chicken was good, but the chicken was dry and chewy. The bbq pork fried rice was a depressing disappointment. An oily, flavorless mess. At the end of the meal, my boyfriend had a pile of inedible pieces of fat he had separated from his small portion of rice that he soldiered through eating. To me, the pork tasted as if it had sat in the fridge improperly stored for two days before being used. The pork had a super funky taste to it. Neither of us really wanted to admit that the food was as bad as it was simply due to the fact that one box of organe chicken and one box of fried rice came out to about $30, so it ended up feeling very wasteful. Now it's the next morning and my boyfriend is complaining of stomach issues and is mildly concerned over some kind of food poisoning. WOULD...
