This western hot spot is pretty good for a variety of quick, casual asian-themed foods! I loved that there's a variety of options in one location, and the place was neat and clean. Read the menu carefully and ask questions if unsure, because I totally misunderstood when I ordered something based on the picture, and not the description. Still, the staff was very friendly and helped me get the perfect side. I'm normally not one to waste food, but I did today, because it comes with so much rice.
So here's the breakdown. Chicken Katsu Bowl: Comes with panko breaded, deep-fried teriyaki chicken and lots of rice (if you order it just like that) You can order half rice/half veggies for just $1 more. I give this a solid 4 because the chicken was fried too long. Although it was still flavorful, the semi-charred panko tainted the flavor a bit and the chicken was as juicy as I prefer. Still the teriyaki sauce was delicious, and the rice was cooked perfectly.
The Steamed Veggies: Oh my! They steam them to perfection. It was tenderness with a slight crunch, and I could taste each wonderful vegetable on it's own cause it was juicy it greasy. However, there was no salt or pepper or anything, I know this works for some people, but a little salt, spice, or acidic zest can't hurt anything in my opinion 😉 Another 4!
The Service and Atmosphere: A solid 5! Chelsie's smile and light, friendly demeanor was delightful. I loved that you see everybody, because it gives the opportunity to thank the actual cooks for the food. Chelsie had solid menu recommendations, and knew what the area favorites were. Her input was very helpful to me as a first-timer! She was very polite, but not overly friendly, and it's always so refreshing to just see people in there natural element rather than forcing a smile.
The front area was very clean and even smelled nice, not just like food. Nice open floor, and great positioned windows for most of the day because the sun wasn't just straight through. Even so, it was cool and comfortable inside as well.
BONUS! This location is close to a few shopping stores, a bowling alley, and about half a mile from a light rail stop (Montebello & 19th Ave) so take yourself out and...
Read moreVery disappointed and upset with my experience this evening. I placed my pickup order through their website. When I got there the young man at the counter "Andrew" couldn't locate my order. I proceeded to show him I received a confirmation text and that the text provided a link to view my order. He then told me that I needed to show him an email for my order. I didn't have an email because I ordered on their website. I told him the text came from DoorDash. He then told me they never got my order. I told him I've already paid and tried to show him the order again. He them accused me of creating something on my phone to look like an order just to get free food. I was like are you serious... He vented that someone last week did that and he gave them the food only to later find out it was a fake. I told him, I had nothing to do with his experience last week and told him Ive already paid for my order. He refused to listen or even look into the text I received with the link to view my order. He proceeded to insult me and said if I want a free meal to go to the homeless shelter down the street. I told him I'm not looking for a free meal but rather the meal I paid $35 for. He then told me to leave or he would call the police. I told him to call the police. He instead phoned his boss (good decision) who eventually found my order. Andrew then handed me my food and walked away. Didnt apologize for anything he said. The whole experience made me lose my appetite. Worst customer...
Read moreIf you like overpriced, bad food, this is the place for you. Their website states that they serve healthy Japanese / pan Asian food. After trying a couple of things on their menu, I can only conclude that it is healthy because it's not possible to eat the food. I ordered Katsu chicken, with two up-charges: half serving of vegetables and extra crispies. The vegetables consisted of two small broccoli florets and a 1 inch square piece of steamed cabbage (these were actually the best part of the meal). The extra crispies were about 2 teaspoons of uncooked panko breadcrumbs sprinkled on top. Do you know what happens to tiny shards of dried bread when you put them on top of something hot and then put a lid on it? They turn into tiny little blobs of paste. But even the glue globules couldn't help the Hershey bar colored katsu chicken. Katsu is normally a lightly coated fawn colored peice of heaven. This was the size of a deck of cards and charred beyond recognition. All that said, the katsu was better than the noodles, which were so heavily seasoned with fish sauce that when I opened the container I felt as though I had been transported to an episode of the deadliest catch. Needless to say, the noodles went straight into the bin, and my $24 meal was less than satisfying. Definitely not going to dance with this...
