stumbled upon Aki Estexokoko thanks to the MAPSTR app and had no idea it was once one of Jonathan Gold’s Anytime Favorites, but I knew right away I made the right choice for lunch. It was quiet for a Sunday around 12:30, and everyone there was warm, smiling, and helpful. As a French speaker, practicing Spanish was smooth and fun. I ordered the special combo with a fresh salad topped with queso fresco, made-to-order guacamole without onions, and their own house-made tostadas and tortillas. The barbacoa, made from lamb, was perfectly tender and comforting, especially wrapped in their soft tortillas. I also had two tacos de barbacoa and one de cabecita, all incredible. Their sopa de tortilla, made with lamb broth, was rich and full of flavor. They serve Mexican Coke and a delicious jamaica, which made it all even better. Read moreI just dissagree with some food that i order, this is not real barbacoa, not a texcoco style, im from there and this way to cook is very different even in different places from the estado de mexico, and hidalgo, but its ok the tostada de pata also cook in different way and pancita, but besides that i give 8 out 10 to the barbacoa, consome 10, aguas frescas 10 service i gave 10 but they deserve 20. I dont dissagree with food because probably they cook like that in certains towns of estado de mexico, i went for barbacoa and i left happy, my daughters asked for chilaquiles and the porcion was big extra point, the service very profesional marcelino deserves my respects. But thanks for everything i will come back again for barbacoa and i going to...
Read moreThe type of food focusing on authentic Barbacoa is definitely something I was looking for in Pico Rivera. Unfortunately, on the day I was visiting the barbacoa had very little borrego taste and lacked salt and spice. It almost tasted like overcooked meat that lost all its flavor to the consome. The black table sasa was terrible and was dominated by burned dry chiles and also lacked complementary spices. A chile arbol salsa and a very strong consome could have saved the day. The green salsa was fine. Service was great and the place is promising but is lacking...
