I went to BonChon (Pineville-Mathews location) for the first time, about a week ago. I kept forgetting to write a review, because ADD. This restaurant is a mix of Korean & American foods. There really is something for everyone. They have spicy and non spicy options., vegan options (lots of good salads), and a variety of interesting main dishes, shareables, sides and starters. The atmosphere is great, not too loud, like some restaurants. The staff is all very friendly and accommodating. We went on a weekday afternoon, so it wasnât crazy busy. And we didnât wait long at all for our food.
We had a rather large group (celebrating a graduation) and Iâm pretty sure that, collectively, we tried just about everything on the menu. All the food was excellent, but I have to say, though, the star of the whole show, was the chicken wings. They really are excellent. I tried the barbecue version, which I believe is their most popular. I donât do spicy (Iâm a wimp) so, I canât speak for myself on the spicy wings, BUT, everyone else was fighting over them. My dad, especially, who likes spicy things, kept going back for more. They do also have boneless chicken strip options for folks who dislike bones in their food. I tried those as well, very good. My family tried the bulgogi, potstickers, kimchi, noodles, Korean tacos, rice, pork belly bun and a bunch of other items. They were all so good! We were stealing off of each otherâs plates âAre you gonna eat that?
They also have a sesame ginger salad that Iâm definitely going to try next time we go, along with calamari and an udon bowl. I just didnât have any more room in my stomach! Absolutely recommend, 10 out of 10, will...
Read moreMy husband and I went to Bonchon for our cheat meal and it was an absolute disaster. We ordered 20 half and half wings with seasoned fries. There were two young ladies sitting behind us that ordered wings and drums. The waiter brought out our fries, but the wings never came. The two ladies behind us received an order of chicken. About 5 or so minutes go by and we hear the two ladies behind us say that they ordered wings and drums, but they received half and half wings. My husband and I watched the waiter take the wings from their table, sit the wings on the bar, talk the other waiter about something then bring those same wings over to us. My husband told him that we werenât taking those wings because we knew where they had been. We asked if we needed to pay for the tea and fries that weâd consumed. He asked us to meet him at the front counter. We went there and explained to an older lady at the counter what happened. She said that she would get the manager. The manager came out and asked what happened. My husband explained again and asked if we needed to pay for the tea and fries because we werenât going to pay for the chicken. He said to us, âI donât want any commotionâ. Firstly, we werenât causing any âcommotionâ. We simply said that we not going to ingest any food that had passed through so many hands and people. Can you say COVID is still a very real thing? We even offered to pay for the items that we did have. Itâs extremely disheartening that those are the practices of any place providing food and thatâs just what we actually saw. Can you imagine what happens in the back? I caution anyone considering the Bonchon in Pineville to think twice before...
Read moreVisited last night with a friend. We were greeted by a lady and brought to the high table. My friend visited the restroom and as I sat down a young man showed up at the table immediately asking if he can get my order. I said I'm waiting for my friend and the waiter looked to the restroom and asked "Is that your man?". Number one faux pas. We said we needed some time to look at the menu. He came back after 3 minutes to take our order. We felt rushed.
Second, we tried to order one soup to split it and he said they couldn't (or wouldn't) do that due to the franchise law (okay?!). We received our order fairly quickly. The young waiter gave my friend his dish with the words "Here you go, playboy!". He left and we couldn't believe he just uttered those words. It's as if we didn't hear right, but we did! He called my friend a "playboy". Completely unprofessional and appalling.
We were there maybe 20 minutes eating and as my friend finished up the soup, the waiter came back to ask if we needed anything, to which we said, no and he just stood there and was rather pushy to ask if we wanted our check. Ummm, we were still eating! (he must've had to be somewhere important to want to close out our tab...).
As I looked around, I noticed that the floor was completely filthy, with food particles and drippings everywhere. It looked as if if hadn't been cleaned since they opened.
We left and both agreed that we wouldn't return because for the money you pay, the food is below mediocre at best and the service...
