SUSHI KOKKU — Restaurant in Pismo Beach

4 stars for the resturant, employees, and food. 1 star for the terrible owner/manager. We've been going to this location and the one in Paso for over a year now. Only ever gotten the terriyaki bowl with tofu. It's quick, easy, tastes good, and affordable. I've probably gone about twice a month, never had an issue.

Went today and someone who seemed to be the owner was there. He was very rude. Normally the tofu is grilled. This time they just dumped cold tofu into the hot terriyaki bowl. Took it back in immediately and the guy started arguing with my boyfriend saying they only ever use cold tofu. Then he says it doesn't matter because we can just take it home and microwave it. My boyfriend insisted that we've never been given cold tofu before. The owner asked the cook and the cook confirmed that they normally cook the todu and just forgot. Instead of apologizing, the owner walked away in a huff. Eventually we got new tofu and went on our way.

We are going back because I like the food and the staff but if this guy is there again we'll just leave and come back another time. He clearly has no idea how the resturant even works and doesn't care about customers at all. We've been getting to go orders during the pandemic to support the resturant but now I feel like we'll wait a good while before going back. I hope the employees are treated better than the customers...

SERVICE: Stopping in Pismo, ordered online at 5:36 tempura shrimp roll, and tempura veggies and a few other items for pick up 10 min away….excited with my order after a long drive from LA. Well, it too almost 45 min finally received notification….I was informed by the store that the tempura was not avail.. they were closing down. When I arrived, they were pretty much closed down.. I had to substitute from a very limited menu. The cashier was lovely, tried to be accommodating… the owner/cook/ was not so much. Both cooks did not speak to me directly… just kept telling the cashier no.. no.. conversation I couldn’t understand.. 🤦‍♀️…. FOOD:.. while tasty, the rolls were sloppy, way too much rice and not tight. Couldn’t pick up my selection without falling apart. Chicken/Avo roll Not sure what part of the chicken they used.. I did enjoy the shrimp roll.. tuna was ok.. Miso and edamame soup, pleasant. Fast Food Sushi… at high prices! I would hope you change your menu to reflect time restrictions for tempura. I see another customer had the same issue. ...

I ordered grilled chicken rolls to go and it took over 15 minutes for me to get my food. I grabbed my bag and left for work and didn't check to see if the order was correct. When I got to work I saw I hadn't been given the right order. Not sure if it was someone else's order or if he guessed I asked for a terryki chicken bowl, but there were two bowls in the bag. Not mad at the mistake but when I called to see what they could do, they wouldn't fix it. I asked for a manager and was told he wasn't working that day. That's strange...so no one is in charge at all? They wouldn't fix it, accused me of ordering a chicken bowl and kept telling me the manager wasn't working that day. Their Yelp rating is bad so I'd avoid this place unless you...
