No notes. Perfect. (Well, one note, but it won't change my review.) This review is specific to a work dinner that we had there last night, but please know that I feel the same way about them when my husband and I go for brunch, lunch, and dinner.
DiAnoia's has long been one of my favorite restaurants in Pittsburgh. It's casual and delicious. We had a few out-of-town coworkers in for a summit this week and needed a place that would accommodate 15 people (on short notice). I emailed DiAnoia's and they responded quickly with all of the information I needed to make a decision (price, menu, availability). Completing the reservation and order was a breeze because of the online tool they use. And everyone I emailed with was incredibly kind.
Our meal was last night; there were 15 of us. Let me first sing the praises of our waitress, Alexa (and all of the other folks who brought us food and drinks). She communicated amazingly, let us know what was coming out and when, and was just all around delightful. The rest of our group felt the same way.
The food was, as usual, delicious, and there was a LOT of it. Some of our coworkers were in from Europe and they were stunned by the amount of food (more leftovers of cacio e pepe for me, then).
Everything was yummy, came out quickly, was warm, and people enjoyed it. The wine and drinks were also provided quickly. Everyone in the group complimented me on the restaurant choice. (Thanks for making me look good, DiAnoia's!)
(The one small note is the sound. High ceilings are beautiful but make acoustics tough. It was a little difficult to have conversations. This has no impact on me coming back and recommending you to everyone, but I thought It should point it out just in...
Read moreIt was one of the most recommended Italian restaurant in the city, and we had been meaning to try it for a very, very long time. We went for dinner around 7 PM on a Saturday night, and we had not reserved before, so we were sure if we were going to get a seat at all. But thankfully, it was raining that day and the restaurant wasn’t entirely full. The menu is restrained. we ordered the mussels for starters. Before the mussels arrived, are host, brought some bread which seemed like Focaccia bread with some olive oil and balsamic vinegar, and it was delightful. The mussels themselves were very fresh, and the broth was tomato-ee and light. Overall, a very good dish. For pasta course, we selected the gnocchi which came with meatballs in a tomato sauce. Then he was light and fluffy. The meatballs were extremely moist. The source was simple and yet very flavourful. Again, an extremely well crafted dish. For our mains we got the Porchetta. This was quite meh. We were expecting some crispy skin, which, according to me is the highlight of a porchetta But this was just some thin livers of the poke on top of some Focaccia. The pork was cooked well and was juicy, but it did not really stand out for me. For deserts, we got the tiramisu, and it was again just divine. The bitterness of the coffee contrast, with just little bit of sweetness was an amazing combination. My main gripe with the tiramisu has always been either being too sweet or too little sweet, but this one was perfect sweetness. Overall, this was a wonderful dinner. The prices are not the cheapest you can find, but for the food and the service, this was well worth...
Read moreThe food was fantastic. We had the ricotta and bread, brussel sprouts, Cacio de Pepe, short rib ragu, and tiramisu. I cannot stress enough that the food was phenomenal. However, as returning customers, we were disappointed with the rapid pace of our dinner service tonight. We specifically asked about whether we should only put in our initial course and the wait staff encouraged us to share what we wanted for entrees as well. Our first appetizer came out at a reasonable pace. The second we finished it, our other came out. However, before our second appetizer was done, our entrees arrived. So, we now had to decide how best to proceed without things getting cold with no real time to enjoy conversation or digest. The wait staff returned to ask us if we wanted boxes the second we finished and proceeded to walk away while we were basically trying to order dessert. I am NOT exaggerating when I say that when I sat my fork down from the last bite of tiramisu— the wait staff had already brought the check and had it on the table, saying, “no rush.” The whole experience was rushed so that felt a bit hollow.
This would be a better place to go with a larger group. It’s loud and open like a cafeteria/food hall. The ambiance is LACKING for romance or even intimate conversation. The noise, the rushed pace of dinner service, etc. were disappointing for the price tag of the date, which is really sad because the food is fabulous and overall, the service isn’t bad in terms of people lazy or standing around on their phones.
Our entire experience lasted 40 minutes. The...
