Disclaimer: This review is being written from the perspective of a white man seeing this as a "foreign food shop". They have all your staple favorites you look for when coming in; ramen, drinks, snacks, something different yet familiar enough. I could rave all day about their excellent selection in those items. But something I think gets incredibly overlooked by people like myself is their produce and prices. Their produce is soooo much cheaper than almost anywhere else, and fresh! They have all the household staples and a few things you've probably not seen but have been looking for. Their daikon radishes are HUGE. The freezers are PACKED with such interesting and delicious looking foods. It's so interesting to see how they've blended their culture with ours.
Also, if you're like me, you've been coming to the strip all your lives. I have vivid memories of my dad buying sugar cane and slicing me off a piece to chew on as we shopped. I have a hard time finding sugar cane anywhere in the strip now. But every time I come in they have it. I can recreate these moments for my children, and enjoy the nostalgia of it for myself.
Oh, and it should go without say, the prices? Wow! Fair isn't even the half of it! They're practically giving their products away. You want an excellent Oriental marketplace that doesn't make you feel awkward when you come in?...
Read moreI love this place so much and can spend hours looking at all of the different foods and package designs.l The manager is always present when I am there and she is very sweet and helpful. She has ordered products that I like when she notices they are out and has also ordered specific things for me by request. The store itself is really large and they have just about everything you would want from an Asian market. Their house-made tofu is amazing and there are many vegan foods to pick from. My only complaint is that they use styrofoam containers. I always bring my own Tupperware container when I get my tofu. Make sure to check out all of the beverages as well as the snacks. People are always happy to receive a basket of random interesting Asian snack foods as a gift. I've bought items without even knowing what they are because the packaging is so cute. There is ample parking in the lot next to the building but I usually just park in front. The only time it's hard to find a parking space is on the weekend so I recommend going on a weekday. I've gone to all of the other Asian markets in the strip and I feel that this one has the...
Read moreObviously by my name you can see I’m not Asian but, I did live in Thailand for a couple years and this place is on point with items you can’t find regularly in Pittsburgh. If you like to cook Asian food then I highly recommend buying your sauces, vegetables, spices and other culinary products from here. If you are not then you are probably not cooking authentically! There truly is a difference in flavor and quality when you use authentic ingredients…just my opinion. The prices are really good for the U.S. too. There is metered parking outside and not too bad of a price for that either. My one advice to you is put extra time on the meter because, once you get into the market you will get immersed in the many different sauces/spices they have. Time goes by quickly trying to look at...
