Silkys is one of my favorite neighborhood bars to go to in Pittsburgh to watch a game and grab some food. During the week it's very relaxed and filled with a few regulars who you will recognize after several visits. The bar staff is very friendly and when the weather is nice there is outdoor seating available. The Silkys in Bloomfield sports a full sized shuffleboard table that is free to play. Just leave your license with the bartender as collateral for the shuffleboard pucks.
There are nightly drink specials during the week, some of which are better than others. If you catch craft night it's $3 craft beers, which is a great deal. Drink specials run 9-11pm. It seems to change season to season but there is usually a drink special for sports games, and sometimes wing specials. I highly recommend the 'atomic' wings. They're not that spicy but very tasty.
The food is pretty good. The burgers will leave you stuffed. The daily specials often include some welcome surprises that are usually very tasty. Sometimes dishes need a little extra salt in my opinion, though.
One of my main stays to be sure. Unfortunately the draft selection is not as big as many other bars, which keeps me from...
Read moreI'm not usually in the city of Pittsburgh, and that is with good reason... I'm more the country type. However, I really needed to be close to my amazing wife during an extended hospital stay, so I found myself in the burgh. Silky's was on the walking route I took each day, and I stopped going to and from. I enjoyed every visit! Two of the bartenders, Kramer and Jay (sp?), would take the time to ask about my wife and offer their hopes and prayers for her speedy recovery. That amazed me. These two didn't know me from Adam. They poured a good drink, and the food was on another level. Yes! It looks like a corner bar for the locals, and it is, but the food is excellent! I tried 3 different soups, and each was worth every penny. The seafood ravioli was perfection, and if I lived closer, they would have to see my sorry ass every day. Silky's! Thank you for the good pours, the excellent meals, and mostly, for giving a...
Read moreThe food was a three star experience. Decent restaurant fare, nothing stunning but definitely more than adequate for a quick bite. Their menu also seems varied. But the service was very questionable. It started off fairly minimal. There was one waitress working, which just didn't cut it. She was definitely hustling but couldn't keep up. Got the food and all, it was overpriced but tasty enough. The main issue was payment. After not seeing the waitress for ~20 minutes I had to approach the bar to ask about the check. She finally appeared, asked about the check, and took another ten minutes with the check. Thankfully I paid cash. Waiting around for a credit card transaction could have taken all night. All in all, if the place isn't busy at all or you don't mind a significant wait,...
