Visit Saturday 4/24/2021 8 pm for a small family get together. We were looking to have a great experience. Blue Goose did not in an way meet expectations for freshness, quality, cleanliness or creating an atmosphere that we would want to return to.
COVID Precautions were not good. Table was not cleaned well and wet stuff / food from previous diner all over table and under the floor. Yuck. They had a adequate time to prepare and the table had been empty for at least the 15 minutes we had been waiting. (Outdoor, Covered SW Patio area)
Our server was courteous and greeted us with a warm greeting and smile. We pointed out the condition of the table and he went and got a broom but the table really needed to be sanitized or at least cleaned. (not done)
Started with Drinks and Queso. They do not have a Sangria so I opted something called El Diablo (similar to Sangria) over ice and other party got a margarita that was garnished in some green leaves. The "El Diablo" was a very short pour for the $ but the Margarita tasted like some kind of grass combination (was in no way like any Margarita we expected or had tasted). The server noted the unique difference of the drink when he brought it out and offered to exchange it if not satisfactory. Since we were also trying to get the order in, we did not send the drink back until the next time the server was available. We requested a replacement (Old Fashioned which was good) but on checkout found that we got charged for the bad drink that had been sent back as well. ($11)
Food: Queso was a good and solid appetizer and the chips were not too thick and not overly salted so this was a win. The salsa was good and fresh but getting refills on chips or salsa was not due to attentiveness of the wait staff. We had to ask on several occasions for additional salsa and chips as there were tiny little cups half filled and we wanted to mix our queso and salsa to enjoy.
Veggie Fajitas: Vegetables were done appropriately and the guacamole and pico de gallo were fresh but the Spanish rice was extremely disappointing. Everyone that got the Spanish rice left it as it was dry, overcooked and flavorless. Same for the Black beans. Tasted like straight from a can. No adulteration.
Worst part, the tortillas, while fresh were VERY SMALL and VERY THICK. They were too small and way to thick to be used to make a fajita. This is a basic 101 issue and certainly a poor reflection on Blue Goose "Cantina". Just ate the vegetables mixed on a plate since no fajita was possible to make with the provided tortillas.
Sour Cream Chicken Enchiladas: meh! Sour Cream, yes. Chicken, yes. Flavor or anything else, Absolutely no. Flavorless, lifeless shredded chicken (could have come from a can or pre-prepared and tasted as good / bad). Same nasty Spanish rice.
Fajita Steak Salad: How little meat do you have to put on a Fajita Steak salad to use the word steak? Well, this was the bare minimum. The meat was done properly and tasty but very very little of it. Use the word SCARCE. for a $14 salad, the meat should have been the star of the plate and it was mostly AWOL. The flavor was good but would have paid more if that was what it took to get a proper salad featuring the meat. The product received teased but did not deliver.
There were two other entrees ordered that were similarly unimpressive (no flavor and lacking quality) and all had the same not nice Spanish rice. The meal was uninspired, bland, not well attended and certainly not following COVID precautions in any manner that would be considered substantive.
Normally, we would have taken pictures and even called over the manager but, it is COVID and we made a few allowances until we finally were just fed up and paid the bill and left.
NOTE: We did leave the server (staff) a CASH 30% gratuity not because the meal or service deserved it but because it is COVID times and we want local business to succeed. Unfortunately, this particular Blue Goose Cantina has no incentive to improve as the location is excellent but we will not be returning to...
Read moreFollow up visit from 6 months ago.... We went back in March with a party of 10 for lunch , and services were much better from the manager to wait staffs. They even gave us some complimentary dessert. Their food were delicious as usual. Thanks!
6 months ago review - We like to go to BG for their frozen margaritas and food. We were there for lunch yesterday, group of 14(at first was 10 then 4 more decided to join us last minute). We got there at 1pm and their dining room was half full. We asked for a table for ten, we sat down and the chips started arriving . We found out 4 more ppl are coming, so we asked the waitress to add another table to accomodate 4 more. Waited for a few minutes no actions, flag down the waitress again and waited no action again, after a few more minutes the waitress came back with another lady(later found out is the manager, Yvonne). She was telling us they can't add another table( when there was an empty rectangle table n a round one around 12 -15 ft away) and if we want we can move out side to the patio or go back out to the waiting area and wait for available tables, and saying adding tables with block the doorway to patio , really!!! She was just giving us excuses, strict face no smiles at all. Then we all squeezed in for 11 ppl, and placed our orders. 2 more ppl came and they sat at the round table 15 ft away from us. Finally food came and all jammed on the table(a few order fajitas that took up space). We told the waitress that we are not enjoying our lunch at all, no elbow room to eat, and one more person still yet to arrive. Finally they added one more table so we can start spread out and eat and to fit one more person showed up finally. The other 2 decided to stay at the round table. The manager never stopped by to check on us. We were at BG back in August again started with 12 ppl and the wait staff were nice and added 2 more tables to accomodate 18 ppl , without blocking the doorway to the patio. We frequent BG alot, most of the time 5-8ppl. Only these last 2 times we doubled our group size. There are other restaurants near by that are happy to accommodate large group if BG is not willing to. I gave them one more star because at the end I asked the waitress for a to go box and a little chips too, and she came back quickly with a togo box, a bag of chips and even extra salsa, so she helped earn one more overall star. BTW, we went to Taverna Rosa in September, 15 of us all enjoyed our lunch with plenty of elbow...
Read moreThis was my first time visiting Blue Goose, though my friends had come a few times before. I came with five of my friends and my friends boyfriend who had to gone to meet with his friends at another table once we got there. We sat down and ordered six frozen margs and waters for all of us, showed all our ids and waited, yet they never came. Twenty minutes later, it had just past last call and nothing (not even the water) had come to the table. Our waiter finally comes back and tells us that the order ticket must’ve gotten lost and we must reorder the margs and we all show our ids once more. By this time my friends boyfriend’s table had received and finished their drinks. A bit later, I head to the bathroom and come back to find that they only served us five margs instead of six as I wasn’t at the table when they brought the margs and the server refused to give the sixth without me there. As it’s too late to order another one, I had to share one with my friend. Then comes the worst part, i’m not sure if she was the manager or what, but an older woman came up to us out of nowhere as we were receiving our checks saying she KNOWS we have brought in alcohol from outside (we were sipping on our chocolate cake shake from Portillos while waiting 30 minutes for any sort of drink…), and that we are sharing drinks despite not all of us being 21. Immediately we tell her that that is false and urge her to check the drink, which she refuses, and that we have all shown our IDs twice. She then asks to check them for a third time and asks if they’ve all been scanned, we all hand them over, confused why she was making a big deal despite us being 21 and finished with our drinks at that point. She proceeds to hand them back and simply say that they don’t have a scanner but if we come back AGAIN and the ids don’t scan THEN we will be in trouble🤣🤣 We then brought up us not receiving our sixth marg, which I guess she didn’t understand and had to ask her multiple times to take it off the check till she finally went to the back to make sure we weren’t charged for it. After that, we all tipped 0$ and left. Considering going back just to see her face when the ids scan, but even with the 2$ margs it’s just not...
