When I moved back here from NYC, the first thing I thought was, “I’m going to miss my friends.” The second thing I thought was, “where the hell am I gonna get doner?” Back in NYC, I had the luxury of eating doner 3-5 times a week. My friends begged me to choose something else but for me it was doner, sushi, lanzhou lamian, chicken over rice, or hipster Taiwanese food. I became depressed during my first year back- apart from the Asian and Mexican dishes from my childhood here, nothing “slapped.” When my partner told me about Soulard, I was hesitant. I’ve been disappointed by all the doner and shawarma places that opened up here in recent years. Even German Doner Kebab and Shawarma King were just reminders that maybe I didn’t deserve good doner/shawarma- maybe if my resume was better, I would still be eating doner 3-5 times a week in my favorite city with my favorite friends. We went and I ordered a doner at Soulard Gyro and I wanted to cry. It was the closest thing to the ones I had in Brooklyn- the perfect blend of yum, sauce, crisp veggies, with the doner bread. The owner even offered me a baklava afterwards. So I came back. Again and again. And every time, I hear the same comments: “This is the best doner in Dallas and I lived in Europe!” “Did you hear that? That guy lived in Europe and he thinks this is the best one!” I no longer feel like leaving Dallas because now I have everything that I missed in NYC- minus my friends, walkable streets, and hipster Taiwanese food.

I really wanted to try this place during Ramadan but they close at 9pm so few days ago I finally did and it lived up to my high expectation. I never had something like that here in Dallas. my top 3 experiences would be Ireland, Turkey and a small Greek restaurant in Miami. if looking for the real deal in Dallas treat yourself to @Soulard-Gyro located in Plano The gyros doner and kebab, they're done right. Everything is fresh. The meat, the yogurt, the sauce, the fries... You can't get this just anywhere. Go inside, and fall in love with this delicious food. Try the spicy tzatzki! Warm and fresh pita pack daily. fresh , colorful vegetable. 3 different Tzatzki sauces made with high quality yogurt not watery one ! the stack of fully marinating chicken and omg the REAL mix MEAT of lamb and beef perfectly seasoned, tender, and juicy, wrapped in a soft, fluffy pita that held everything together beautifully. the French fries is a MUST I cant get over how crispy ! The portions were generous, and the price was very reasonable for the quality and quantity of food. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. everything is Halal as the owner family originally from Chechnya but he lived his live in Germany ! the best combination of 2 cultures tog.

Im giving this place a 5 star because I really want it to succeed, even though there are a few things I think they could still work on. I was pleased to see a doner kebap on the menu, and the meat and bread and veg were all a good quality/texture. But, the whole place seems to be afraid of spice. We ordered the spicy tzatziki, and it wasn’t even the slightest bit mild. It tasted like maybe they had made it in the same room where a pepper once was placed, and that’s about it. When I mentioned this to one of the owners (who was very nice!) he mentioned that’s why they have sriracha by the condiments. Um, thats not it bro. I challenge you to develop a harissa or cayenne based sauce that fits a more authentic palate to what you’re used to in Missouri. (On that note, your garlic sauce could use about 3x the amount of garlic as well.) I’d love to see a vinaigrette offered for the doners too. But you’re on the right track and we’ll definitely be back - we may just bring our own sauce (and enough for you to try too…) 😜

I recently visited Soulard Gyro Plano, and I must say, it exceeded all my expectations! From the moment I walked in, the vibrant, welcoming atmosphere made me feel right at home. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, making sure every guest felt comfortable and well taken care of.

The highlight, of course, was the food. The gyro was absolutely delicious—perfectly seasoned, tender meat wrapped in a warm, soft pita with a generous helping of fresh veggies and tangy tzatziki sauce. Each bite was bursting with flavor, and I couldn’t get enough. They also offer a great selection of sides and appetizers, and the falafel was crispy on the outside and soft inside—just perfect.

The portion sizes were incredibly generous, and I left feeling full but satisfied. The prices are reasonable for the quality and quantity of food you receive. Whether you’re a fan of Mediterranean cuisine or new to the flavors, Soulard Gyro Plano is a must-visit. I can’t wait to return and try more of their menu options!

Highly recommended for anyone looking for delicious, authentic Mediterranean food in a cozy, inviting setting. Five stars...
