There are a million burger places in every decent sized city and Plano is no exception, but have you ever heard of Country Burger? If the answer is no do yourself a favor and change that fact by swinging through one of their (I think two total) locations sometime.
Nothing "fancy" to catch your ear as you drive by so to speak. You're not going to find exotic meats from strange animals covered in a cheese you can't pronounce, but you are going to find a SERIOUSLY GOOD CLASSIC HAMBURGER served by people who care and if you'd like you can even eat it surrounded by similar aficionados of the classics in a functional yet cozy atmosphere.
Let me share a true story about one of my experiences at Country Burger and you can decide for yourself if it sounds like a place you'd enjoy:
I once saw a woman and her young son ordering two burgers and fries, splitting a drink and having it to go. When the total came up the poor woman turned so red as she dug through her purse and ended up actually shaking the last few pieces of change out on the counter to make what probably was still shy of the total. The little man was off in his own world and just thrilled be out with Mom and getting a tasty burger, but she was really feeling bad about the whole thing.
I think she probably just left her CC at the house but either way - it was painful to watch. The man behind the counter scraped the change away in a single arm motion and into the drawer to count later, ending any further hardships on the poor woman and turned to bag their food. He made actually kind of funny banter with her, about a different topic mind you, as he placed the hot and fresh burgers into the bag. He then turned to her making eye contact as he'd asked some sort of small question in the banter process and scooped THREE HEAPING FRENCH FRY SHOVELS of extra frys into the bag on top of the already two packed small fry containers that they had ordered.
I don't even think she noticed in the moment, but I sure did. He folded the bag neatly, grabbed TWO soda cups and handed the food over the counter to her with a smile as the conversation flowed helping her to return to a normal state of mind. As she walked over to self-serve their sodas she handed the extra cup down to her boy who lit up as he was clearly excited to get perk of his own drink.
I could have cried and have never forgotten it. If I knew his name or any other details I'd share them here - that's how spectacular it was.
It's that type of a place. It's that type of a hamburger. And since I might as well give you the full story - I was that little boy.
It's been over 20 years and I still remember that. I will always remember that and every time I eat one of their still made by the same recipe burgers I remember just how important quality, home made local establishments are.
Eat here - you'll feel good when you're done. It really is great food made by even...
Read moreAs much as I'm all for supporting locals and old-school burgers, my experience at Country Burger was a disappointment. I had so many high hopes from all the positive reviews, but it did not go well with my taste buds.
We came on a weekday lunch, and the place had a good amount of customers. The interior is classic and I love all the plants and natural lighting. The menu is right by the register, so you can look and order. The service here was pretty good, but that doesn't mean the food was to my standard. Burgers were around $10-15 each, depending on which one you're getting. We got a combo with fries and a drink, and I got extra fries on the side; the total came to around $18.
The food took about 10 mins to come out, and it looks just like your classic old-school style burgers. When I took my first bite, I was so disappointed in how dry and tasteless the patty was. There was no seasoning whatsoever, just plain beef. The burger was flipped backward when they wrapped it so I thought that was confusing. The burger was big and definitely worth the price, but I couldn't believe how plain this burger was. Not even ketchup can help add some flavor to the burger.
I'm a fan of classic burgers and tried many spots throughout Dallas, but this one was a disappointment. My friend couldn't even finish his burger because it was just so tasteless. Their fries were crispy and good, but I was expecting more flavors for the burgers. I wouldn't visit again since I have other favorite classic burger spots in the area and the burgers are a couple of dollars cheaper...
Read moreI wish I had a good review to write... I dine at both locations often, generally during lunch. This was my first dinner experience and I am leaving hungry...
The woman at the register did not greet us properly, we looked to be an inconvenience to her. With 2 adults and 3 children our order was not small but still very simple. 1 plain burger, 1 with cheese and ketchup, 2 with mayo and cheese and 1 double double. 2 burgers came out correct. I went back to speak with the same woman, explained what we ordered and when she was finished cooking, the order was still wrong! At that point everyone else was done eating so we left. I figured by the 3rd time I had to go up there, they'd be spitting in my food so I didn't bother... My kids and the other adult ate, I guess I can eat somewhere else later.
We will not being going back until I have contact with the owner. I've met him, he's a great guy and I don't think he would appreciate this. This was not the country burger I was...
