Located in a parking lot (adjacent to a gas station) is a completely unexpected hidden gem called Sourdough Bread Deli just waiting to be discovered. A Yelp suggestion led us here and this place definitely did not disappoint.
We were greeted by Veronika, the attentive and friendly owner, with a smile upon entering and explained that it was our first visit. She gave us a little background on the business and explained that everything is baked fresh daily! You place your order (and also pay) at the front (there is a Menu on the wall) and it is brought out to you when it is ready. We ordered two Unsweetened Iced Teas, a Potato Salad, a small Reuben Sandwich (for me), and a small Roast Beef Sandwich (for Mom). Also purchased a Chocolate Chip Cookie which lent a perfect balance of brown sugar and chocolate chunks. All dishes excellent! The potato salad was a creamy and comforting classic reminiscent of childhood and truly hit the spot. The combination of potatoes, boiled eggs, savory onions, and crunchy celery provided the foundation for and an accompaniment to a delicious meal. The Sourdough was well-balanced while providing the perfect contrast, a noticeable depth of flavor, and the sauerkraut, dressing, and pastrami was the glue that held it all together. In a word? Fabulous! AND...it looked JUST LIKE the picture on the website! Solid 5 stars! I would certainly consider ordering this again on my next visit, but would try either the Chicken Parmesan or Chicken Pesto & Avocado and perhaps the Potato Leek Soup.
The food here is clearly the star of the show. Ambiance is not at all the focal point. The service is attentive and it is clear that management knows what they are doing. I could definitely see this as our first choice and Sourdough go-to for subsequent visits. From the time we entered to the time we left, we witnessed Veronika and other employees/staff members hustling with rollerskates on and fulfilling online and dine-in orders. Apparently, this place gets pretty busy during the week and even more so on Saturday (they are closed on Sundays), but we arrived here around 10:30AM on a Tuesday morning and were able to find a table...
Read moreThis is a delicious sandwich shop that is worth a stop. The food is nice. They serve sandwiches with Schlotzky style circle bread and have an incredible variety of hot and cold toppings available on the menu. It's a small hole in the wall mom & pop style business, and that care is reflected in the food. The cordon bleu sandwich I had included a freshly sliced grilled chicken breast that was still hot when I ate it. The owner was also sweet enough to offer me a free side of potato salad on the miserably cold day I went. It's an interesting salad; it has chunks of hard boiled eggs in it, which is a nice touch. Though the salad wasn't as sweet as I like my potato salad, it's definitely still a quality potato salad. Amazingly, everything on the menu is cheap given the high quality. The medium sandwiches all hover around $6, and they might as well be large sandwiches. They're like the size of two hands held together; that's how big they are. It's a hidden gem of a simple sandwich restaurant.
2nd visit: The staff (owners I believe) are so nice. They gave me a free potato salad for dinner again. I had the roast beef sandwich with pizza. The roast beef was immaculate, but the pizza is what was really uniquely extraordinary. They use their normal bread which is so airy and crispy; this sort of creates a detroit-style pizza without the excess greasiness. Topped with premium sliced sausages and mushroom (what I got on my pizza), it's a perfect pizza that's worth the try. As skeptical as you (and I was initially) might be of a pizza from a sandwich shop, it's a...
Read moreDelicious old-school sandwich shop without any new age frills. Everything here is made from scratch, even the sandwich bread itself and tasty chocolate chip cookies at the counter. Very friendly and attentive staff.
I’ve now gone twice and each time our lunch was great and very reasonably priced. Portions are big and they don’t skimp with the ingredients. Very versatile menu that even has some fish options.
I tried the chicken pesto avocado sandwich, the blackened chicken avocado sandwich, the rescue, potato leek soup, and their chocolate chip cookie.
For me a dedicated sandwich shop often lives and dies by the quality of its bread, and this place absolutely does not disappoint. Their from scratch bread comes out hot and perfectly baked.
The outside is toasted just enough with some delicate golden brown spots on the edge that give a gentle crispy exterior with a perfectly soft inside. If you often find some sandwich bread is too firm and hard on the inside of your mouth, you will especially appreciate their bread. Their bread is sort of in a circular shape the does a great job of being just enough bread to cover the surface area of the sandwich, but still letting the ingredients stand out.
So long as you aren’t coming for the atmosphere/decor, this is legit one of the best sandwich shops in DFW. Next time you’re thinking of ordering from a chain sandwich shop, just do yourself a favor and try...
