Unfortunately, I cannot in good faith recommend this restaurant. I would caution others and avoid this restaurant for your health and safety. My husband and I ended up getting physically ill after eating here, and I am truly not surprised by this. We were served a tomato with a rotting, moldy spot (photo for proof). We were served fried catfish that was sour (yes, SOUR) and had a "fuzzy" texture. We were served chicken fried chicken that had a large "slimy" section underneath the breading. All of these are major health concerns, and resulted in us not finishing our meals due to fears for our own health. Unfortunately what we did consume did result in what appears to be food poisoning within 3 hours of leaving the restaurant. As if these poor quality control and poor food handling concerns weren't enough - the food was also extremely bland. No evidence of seasoning we could see or taste. I had ordered cornbread, but we were instead given two of the most tasteless rolls I didn't even think were possible to make. The mashed potatoes had the texture of applesauce, the glazed carrots were just large chunks of unseasoned and unglazed boiled carrots, the green beans were watery and flavorless without even a hint of salt or pepper, and the baked apples were also watery and lacked any sweetness or even trace of cinnamon flavor.
This restaurant is clearly severely understaffed, as we had two rotating waitresses who were struggling to keep up with the few patrons in the restaurant between cleaning dirty tables. One of our servers was very nice (tie-dye shirt, I didn't catch her name unfortunately), but that was the extent of positivity I can provide here. The restaurant is outdated and likely host to multiple health code violations just based off our visit. Not only was the meal horrific and flavorless - we paid much much more than money for this meal, the significant cost being the illness we received as a result of eating here.
Significant changes need to occur for this restaurant to be safe to continue to operate. As it stands, this place needs to be shut down by the Health Department until corrective actions are made. Do not spend your money here, and do not risk your health...

This is an older restaurant. The walls are covered with old pictures. It is made to look as close to someone's house with tones of tables and chairs as possible. I am not going to lie. It LOOKS rough.
BUT... OH MY LORD the food! Sometimes there is a long wait but, reasonable because they are busy during those times. It is a large restaurant. I love the staff. You have 3 people taking care of you. The host/hostess seats you and takes your drink order. A server brings the drinks and will tell you if your waiter/waitress is busy or not and will be here to take your order. The waiter/waitress gives you actual time to look at the menu. Busy or not. The food reaches your table via the server and the waiter/waitress checks on you at appropriate time. The server and host/hostess is continuously walking around with a coffee pot when not seating people and the server helps when they are. Sometimes the waiter/waitress. That is the amazing awesome serious you are going to get.
Now, about the food. Really. Everything I have tried so far has been amazing. Usually at places like this my first order is going to include biscuits and gravy. (I am from WV and a country girl. Not that Texans aren't but this is a staple breakfast there). They have amazing hazhbrowns, fried apples, sausage, etc. We have only tried the breakfast items. There is a large selection of breakfast items sure to please a fair diverse peoples.
Pricing is very reasonable.
They do not have a high turn around rate. The people working out front are the same people I have seen the last few months I have been going there.
No body is perfect so, I am sure there have been problems and will be in the future but, I have not had that.
Do yourself a favor and try this place out. A real treat!...
Read moreWe frequently visit this place and have only had bad food one time. Word of advice, don't order a steak! (Hence only 4 stars). Other than that, everything else has been absolutely delicious! Chicken Fried Steak, Catfish, Chopped Steak, Monterey Chicken... You can't lose! For your appetizer, the choices are a salad or soup. The salad is large, fresh, full of tomato, cucumber, onion and excellent croutons. If soup is more your thing, go for the chicken gumbo. Full of fresh pulled chicken and okra. Thick and hearty, topped with rice. The sides are great, especially the zucchini... Don't leave without trying it! The pinto beans taste like Mom's, fresh and slow cooked to perfection. The baby carrots are not from a can! Fresh big chunks, delicately glazed, and piled high. For your bread choice, I highly recommend the cornbread. A huge, soft, golden chunk the size of a brick, fresh and hot, ready for a slathering of butter! The rolls are also huge, soft and fresh. Dessert is also a pleasure. The coconut pie is creamy, tall and light, full of flavor with a flakey crust. The brownie pie ala mode is a chocoholic's dream come true. So rich and decadent. If you're a sweet tea fan, lucky you! They have really good tea! They also have a huge bar with awesome drink specials and large screen tv's. Last but not least, ask for Gigi. She's the best server in the building. She knows about it all. She's quick, smart and has a great attitude, too! No screw ups if Gigi is handling things! Be warned, younger generation... While all are welcome here, this restaurant primarily serves the golden generation, so it's nice and quiet, homey and comfortable. A great place to relax and hear each other talk. Go try it out, you...
