Waffle House — Restaurant in Plano

Prior to this visit, I had not been to a Waffle House in about 10 years. When I was a kid, Waffle House was one of my favorite restaurants, especially on road trips.

I visited yesterday, the day after Thanksgiving, 2022. It was 5:30 in the morning, I was on a road trip, I a driving, and I needed to eat. I knew McDonald's likely wasn't open, so I was looking for exit signs with a restaurant listed as 24hrs. I jumped for joy when I saw a Waffle House sign.

Waffle House is open 24/7/365 come sunshine or hurricane. Fun Fact: There is something called the Waffle House Index, which helps organizations like FEMA assess how severe the damage is after a natural disaster. If the Waffle House is open, the damage isn't too bad. If Waffle House is closed, the damage was catastrophic. Look it up on Accu Weather.

When a restaurant is never closed, it can be hard to keep it clean. The kitchen here looked worse than I hoped. There were dried waffle drippings piled up on all the drip trays. The stove was black, and the utensils looked greasy. The floor needed to be swept. Generally, the place could use a deep clean. I don't like ordering from a dirty kitchen, but I eat out at fast food drive thrus a lot and normally can't see the kitchen I am eating out of, so I decided to not let the appearance of the kitchen bother me too much. I decided to get food anyway.

I got a regular coffee with creamers and sugar. It was surprisingly delicious! I saw a sign inside stating Waffle House was voted best coffee in the USA. I believe it! I also got a chicken melt hashbrown bowl without cheese with added mushrooms, onions, tomatoes and bacon.

The cook wore gloves when handling the raw chicken and changed his gloves before continuing. The chicken was fresh and the food was delicious. The bowl was huge! Next time I'll order the same thing with half the hashbrowns.

The service was great. The server was chatting with the other customers, two ladies who were obvious regulars. The ladies also interacted with me some. The cook and the server had good team communication. The cook gave me my food and asked if I needed anything else.

It was shift change time and no one from the new shift showed up. The man who seemed to be general manager came in (he had a full, scruffy beard) and commented on the new shift not showing up. The server mentioned they had been very very busy from 10pm to 2am and were dead (meaning very few customers) after 2am. (So why didn't they clean? I thought)

I ordered two more meals to go for some other people in my car. They enjoyed their food too.

Service was great; the staff on duty were a good team; the food was delicious; the chicken was fresh and moist; the price was great. (Five stars!) The kitchen looked filthy (1 star) but common smart sanitation practices (using gloves without washing hands) were observed (2 stars). I did not get sick after eating there (5 stars). Talk about down home hospitality! I had never eaten at a Waffle House and believe me I will definitely be going back. From the moment you walk in the door, you are greeted by their staff with a friendly smile and heartfelt hello. The sitting arrangement truly helps to make you feel like you’re part of the family. Stephanie our server was extremely warm and friendly. Her smile shined through with every word she spoke. I made her aware that this was my first time at a Waffle House and she patiently allowed for me to scan the menu. I asked her about several options and she was very polite in her delivery and responses. OMG, my Texas toast, grilled onions, bacon, steak and cheese sandwich was out of this world! Their hash browns were delicious and the perfect texture. I was so impressed with blending of flavors and how everything complimented each other. Before our meals were served, they treated us to one of the best waffles that I have ever eaten. They were fluffy, light and the maple syrup and butter just melted in our mouths. She was ready for us to try one of their specialty waffles, but I didn’t think I would be able to eat my entree. Then Dee heard that it was our first time, so he too brought us a waffle to try. Talk about customer service, this place knocks it out of the park! Then one of their Shift Managers, Woodie stopped by our table to make sure we were happy with our visit. The staff had already won my respect and now the Shift Manager just iced the cake. He was extremely genuine and professional. This is how I measure excellent customer service, it starts with the Manager and trickles down to the staff. Thank you Stephanie, Dee, Camille and Woodie for making tonight such a memorable dining experience. You guys totally ROCk!! I will definitely be returning to this location and I hope that this will be the norm should I visit another location. Until we meet again my new Waffle...

Horrible times 100!! & no the food isn't good. We already know most times when it's ratchet the food is good but that's not the case with this store. I've given this location a few chances but I can't even go here anymore. Ever. J's burgers and breakfast in Addison is much better. Heck Denny's or IHOP is better than this particular location. I don't event see how they're still in business. The late night staff are horrible. The cook is slow and Im guessing in her mind she went to culinary school. ( Girl bye! This is breakfast food and you do not own this establishment.) The waitress has an attitude whenever you request something. (Ma'am I asked for this when I placed my order! ) They had our orders wrong. They're too lazy to clean so they block off parts of the restaurant forcing separate parties to be seated so close together. The waitress touches food with bare hands. The cook touched several things and food using the same gloves and didn't change them until I said something. They we're extremely rude with a group of teenagers that came in. The teens ordered specific things, the waitress called it out to the cook and the cook still cooked the wrong thing. The waitress brought them their food and they were like well this isn't what we ordered and the heffa had the audacity to get mad. I'm like well you wrote their order down in the ticket and y'all still cooked the wrong thing and messed up my order also. CANCEL MY ORDER!!! NEVER...
