NEW RESTAURANT ALERT! (Review below)
(Yes, Oh Muslim Food "scholars", it's Zabihah Halal)
Assalaamu'alaykum, y'all!
West African Way is a brand new Halal spot, recently opened in Downtown Plano. We called and ordered ahead for dine-in. My wife and I enjoyed every bit of these menu items, we literally cleaned the plate off. We would highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to try unique West African food!
Mild Sauce: 5/5 This homemade sauce is a bit spicy, but so tasty! We used this to eat with all the items and took some home too lol.
Meatpie: 5/5 These small appetizers are meat pastries! We had only 2 and had to force ourselves to not order 5 more. It's filled with minced beef and flavor, and comes with that mild sauce.
Chicken Wings: 5/5 This appetizer came with 6 chicken wing pieces. We both loved the flavoring and how it was grilled. It was cooked well and we ate this with the mild sauce.
Chicken Yassa: 5/5 The chicken yassa, as you can see below, had very nice presentation, and 2 big pieces of chicken, served with vegetables and rice. The whole dish had amazing flavor; the chicken was very similarly seasoned as the chicken wings, and grilled too, I've never enjoyed grilled onions this much before either. Served with pieces of potatoes that were seasoned and was soft yet had the perfect amount of crunch!
Benachin: 5/5 This item is most popular at the restaurant and we were recommended it by the staff....and we were not disappointed. This entree had very nice presentation as well. The smaller pieces of beef, coupled with steamed peppers and carrots, and rice really blew us away. We chowed down like no tomorrow on this.
Service: 5/5 The young man at the front was very welcoming and attended to all our needs. He even gave us free tastings of some of the unique drinks they have. They only have 1 chef currently, so if you're going to order, order ahead and be patient because I promise you, the food is worth the wait!
Decor: 5/5 Beautiful and spacious restaurant, with nice ambiance. Very good date spot too. Address: 1405 Jupiter Road, Unit 116, Plano, Texas, 75074
Timings: -Mondays to Thursdays from 11am-10pm -Fridays & Saturdays from 12pm-11pm -Sundays...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy mother and I were in the area and wanted to find a local place for lunch and stumbled across this gem. We've never had West African food before and thought it would be fun to try out. Wow! Expectations exceeded! We ordered two glasses of the Baobab drink and it was an interesting experience to say the least. Texture and spice were definitely out of the ordinary. It's always nice to experience something new. We ordered the Benachin and the Chicken Yassa. Both had large enough portions to feed two on their own! We asked our wonderful waitress to bring them out as they came up. The Benachin came out first. It had beef, seasoned rice, and soft cooked carrots in a delicious sauce. Mix it together. It's delicious! The Chicken Yassa took longer to cook, so the chef gave us two complimentary meat pies with a nice spicy red sauce while we waited. They were a lot like empanadas and fried perfectly! The Chicken Yassa was my favorite thing we ordered. I would definitely recommend it as a first dish to try! The chicken is cooked to perfection over a fire. The grilled onions are out of this world! It's served with white rice and potatoes. Everything on the menu is Halal, which is a definite plus for a lot of people with dietary restrictions. If you're a couple on a date, maybe order one meal to split, then order more after you finish. Just try it already! I honestly can't wait to go back and try the rest of...

With that being said, the customer service is exceptional. The owner remembered us from the first time we came (which was two months apart).
Upon placing our order, we were promptly given some meat pies (which we didnāt order and they were on the house). They were super delicious.
One thing about this place, it does take awhile for the food to come. As our dishes were coming out one by one, I asked the owner as to why it takes longer than typical restaurants. He explained he cooks some of the meats on wood and the process takes a while. I personally didnāt mind the wait since it took us to finish each dish, and as soon as we finished, another one would be served.
To be honest, it is some of the best food your tongue will ever try. The chicken yassa was very tender and juicy. The rice was cooked perfectly and the onions brought the whole dish together. Their lamb is exceptional and probably some of the best lamb youāll ever taste. Each piece is so juicy, tender, chewy, itās kind of hard to explain unless you go try it.
Once again, please do give this restaurant a try. You will not be diss appointed. From exceptional customer service to scrumptious dishes, itās...
