I normally try to stay away from posting bad reviews, but I feel that "maybe" some constructive criticism might help earn this little place a couple extra stars.
The cafe itself is very very inviting and the interior is a fantastic replication of a 50's diner complete with soda fountain! But thats where the stars stop.
They have a live piano player which is unique and charming, but the piano is so loud you cannot have a conversation much less even hear the servers. We had to go outside to the patio,. Which could use a good cleaning, and kudos to the the server, she was very quick to get our table cleaned
We placed our orders for burgers, (I should have gone for the 'Conductor' sandwich like my gut told me to.....and kept telling me for the rest of the afternoon!).
First of all the burgers were out to us in about 2 minutes and the buns were hot....which screams microwave burgers, bun and all.... Terrible, awful microwave heated burgers!! No fries available, only chips....literally the tiniest bag of chips on the market.
We got through half of each burger and called it quits. $9.50 for a vending machine quality microwave burger and tiny bag of chips is extremely overpriced. Switch to fresh burgers on the grill and this place could be a...
Read moreI couldn't wait to get home so I could write a review for this place! What a GEM!! This is in the heart of Plant City's historic district and it stood out immediately with the adorable decor on the exterior, so much that we decided to pop in for a bite. The interior is literally so precious and decorated with trains which makes sense since it's next to the railroad and railroad museum. The atmosphere was so welcoming and the staff immediately greets you with a smile. As an interracial couple, we worry about restaurants in places like Plant City where we sometimes don't feel welcomed, but the family who owns this place made us feel like we were right at home! Every person who walks through their door is going to get the hospitality we all love! The menu was impressive and it took us a while to narrow down what we wanted because everything looked good. The sandwich I got had freshly made rye and was delicious, and my partner's salad was eaten every last bite! We spoke with the family and discovered that all the bread and cakes were made fresh by Mama and she was just as sweet as her cakes! This was a lovely treasure we discovered today and we will definitely return with family and friends. Thanks for the hospitality and...
Read moreWhile visiting Plant City chose the Whistle Stop Cafe for lunch and was not disappointed. Cafe had convenient parking on the street as well as a small lot adjacent. There was not a wait on a Saturday and sat in a comfortable booth and experienced very friendly, efficient service. We tried sandwiches on their own fresh baked bread and the potato soup special. Our half sandwiches were the size of an entire one from other restaurants. The food menu is extensive and in my estimation would equate to old fashioned home cooking, fresh and tasty. Our waiter took time to explain the menu and choices and guided us to their signature food. The cakes looked fantastic although did not sample on this trip. My husband enjoyed his root beer float, the potato soup was very good and my cherry crush of seltzer and cherry syrup was a nice change. While dining there was live piano music and we even got to see a train pass as next to the tracks. The sandwich and soup combo with potato chips was $9.50 a person and. much better than any fast food. There was a play area with toys int he front of the shop as well. I would visit again and...
