We stayed with Guy and Brenda on March 6th & 7th 2013 during the Florida Strawberry Festival. It was our first experience staying at a B&B, so we didn’t know just what to expect. Our stay can’t be adequately described in a just a few short words. So I’ll just take it a bit at the time. We stayed in the Angel Room during our visit. The king size bed was extremely comfortable and the fiberfill pillows were large and not lumpy or worn out. The bedding was fresh and soft and their combination of comforter, sheets and blanket were just right for the chilly mornings we were blessed with during our visit. Add a ceiling fan for air circulation and the combination ensured a great refreshing nights sleep. The attached private bath and furnishings are original to the house. The shower had exfoliating strength water pressure available, and the toilet was up to the task too. Hot water was prompt and separate controls for both the shower and tub made figuring out the arrangement easy. The only inconveniences with the room amenities were that the television required 2 separate remotes to operate and a local channel guide would have been a plus. And the light switch to the bathroom was opposite the entrance from the bedroom. That describes the “Bed” part of B&B. Next is Breakfast. Brenda pulls out the stops in making sure her guests are fed and fortified to begin their day. We were served a range of breakfast items that would put the continental breakfast at your favorite budget hotel to shame. Hot fluffy biscuits, eggs to order, toast, a breakfast casserole combined with fresh fruit, gourmet coffees and plenty of elbow-room at the table make your first meal of the day more of an adventure than anything else. The only issue with the food was that we felt guilty that we were unable to eat it all. On our second day, we made sure that Brenda knew we were fine with what we usually breakfast on and she reluctantly scaled back the menu to accommodate our tastes. Don’t be afraid to let them know your meal preferences. If you’re uncertain about dinner, Brenda and Guy can recommend several local restaurants with carry-out and dine-in in a variety of different food styles. One restaurant in particular specializes in traditional Southern style foods and has a menu of offerings everyone south of the Mason Dixon line probably grew up eating. Our innkeepers, Guy and Brenda Ford have those unique personalities that are rare to find together. From the minute you walk into their home, you’re not only treated just like family, but better! Brenda reminded us of a favorite friend who’s never met a stranger, has a particularly warped sense of humor and who you just can’t be around and not soon catch the enthusiasm and love of life she blossoms with. Guy is just the same. He even went above and beyond by making a special stop on his way home from work to pick up a half gallon of banana pudding I’d been fretting over that was on the menu of a local restaurant. We kept them up past their bedtimes swapping stories and jokes on the front porch over coffee when the sun went down. The best part was they gave as good as they got. Finding a host and hostess who can become great friends in the course of just a couple of days is an added, unadvertised bonus that comes with your stay at Strawberry House. We’re already planning our next visit and sincerely hope that they’ll have time to sit on the porch and swap stories until the...
