we ordered the fried squid which comes with a dollop of plain mayonnaise on the side to dip. just mayo. they don't even try to fool you or fake a sauce by mixing something with the mayo and putting it in a ramekin....they just spoon out some mayo from that big bucket from Sysco and there ya go! So I asked for a different dipping sauce to try and the server said they don't have anything else. She was confused as to why I would be asking for something different from the wonderfully delicious mayo. Am I really the ONLY person who has ever requested something different than mayo...?? like that orange chili sauce or that brown sauce that's usually served with Japanese fried squid. I tried to describe the orange chili sauce...she told me "oh, that's duck sauce, you're confusing us with Chinese..." OMG! really??? If I wasn't with my family who were in town and If we hadn't been driving around all day then drove to the good sushi place which ended up being closed b/c it was sunday so we had to drive to this place and I was hungry.......I would have walked out. I don't even care if anyone thinks that is dramatic...it is. I agree. But I didn't want to sit there anymore and watch people dip their food in mayo and be OK with it. So, because of that insult and because they serve mayo as a dipping sauce and get away with it and because the rolls are tiny and basic, I hate this place. (come on people can we raise the standards of these restaurants around here??? I'm tired of them getting away with BASIC ass nothing whatever food! and still getting high ratings!) But they're not as bad as a one star so I gave them 2. and by all means, try the place out. Don't go by my word. I'm definitely a snob when it comes to restaurants and I admit this freely....I guess my standards are...
Read moreI'm just getting back from Marumi Sushi and I have to give a bad review. I have never given a review for a restaurant before in my life but this restaurant was too bad for me to give others a warning. First off, the decor and atmosphere was decent. Now I did go around 11:30 at night but the staff looked tired and overworked. I mean there was simply no energy, no smiles, nothing to give you the feeling of welcomeness. So whatever, I'm thinking its been a bad day maybe the food is good, I order soda and out comes a can, I order Miso soup and out comes a regular tasting soup, it was bigger than most sushi places, but there was no flavor to it. Now for the worst part, my date asks about a section on the menu and the waitress says "there all different things", well no duh!! That's why were asking, at least give us something to work with. No attitude, just like an "I don't care" response. Then I order the japanese fried chicken and got a bunch of batter with maybe 1/4 ounce of actual chicken in it, the stuff was dry. Tried to play it safe by ordering the chicken w/ chili sauce while my date ordered the shrimp w/ chili sauce and eww. Most of the decorations around the food, like the carrots, were not even edible. The food was bad even by chinese fast food standards and then the rice. The brown rice tasted like oatmeal and the white rice wasn't much better. Never going back, and unless you know somebody there (like i said the atmosphere was decent) I wouldn't recommend wasting your...
