I gave my son the choice of where to eat last night and he wanted pizza. We had never been to Steve's before and were looking for more of a nice sit down/restaurant experience then pizza hut. When we entered I was pleasantly surprised with the nice cozy bar/restaurant area downstairs. The woodwork, booths, nice lighting was great. Unfortunately when we asked to be seated we were told we needed to go upstairs. I was slightly confused as there were plenty of people seated downstairs as well as plenty of open booths. Perhaps about 50/50. When I asked why we couldn't sit downstairs they said that there is some sort of shift where they serve upstairs some days and downstairs others... Still confused I asked how to get upstairs and told I would have to take an elevator, which seemed odd in itself. When we couldn't find the elevator since no one showed us where it was we took the stairs. We were then seated in a large open room. It was loud and had a very bad echo. Tall tables with tall stools not well suited for families. Was also extremely cold inside even with the 90 degree temps outside we were soon freezing. It felt like sitting in a large garage or warehouse. No atmosphere upstairs at all. We ended up just paying for our drinks since I felt bad for our server and left. I am still confused as how people were being seated downstairs and other were instructed to go elsewhere. I would have really liked to sit in the lower area as it seemed to be nice and cozy and comfortable but I'm kinda aggravated we were shuffled into a cold warehouse. What is the reason for alternating rooms when you don't have enough people to fill one? Why even alternate? Is it per shift? Per day? Still no idea. It made us feel like a second thought. Almost like they didn't want to deal with us so they sent us upstairs away from the rest of the customers. On a side note I have also ordered food from Steve's in Cuba city and was unhappy with the quality there. Their gyro meat is overdone and very dry and had the same result when it was replaced. See my other review with pictures. I was hoping maybe the larger more flashy restaurant in Platteville would provide a better gyro but unfortunately we didn't even get to eat before deciding to leave. We ended up going to Pizzeria UNO and had a great meal in a nice comfy place. I would NOT recommend Steve's in either city. The server was nice but that was the ONLY part of our visit which went okay. Very...
Read moreSo earlier this week I took a drive to Platteville just to eat supper at a pizza place. The place is called Steve's Pizza Palace. I originally seen this place some nights ago (Saturday), when I drove a party bus to Platteville. The place looked good and the reviews were great so I had to check it out, and boy am I glad that i did!
The place itself was warm and cozy and reminds me of an Irish pub. They even served Guinness on tap and Odoul's in bottles. The bartender was very friendly, and she was extremely talkative. So it made for some good conversation. She even needed me to open a new jar of olives that she couldn't get open. So i guess it was a good thing i was there. Otherwise someones martini might have been ruined! 😂
But on a serious note... I originally wanted to try some of their pizza. However once there i noticed that they also made Giant Calzones. They looked so delicious that I just had to try them. So I ordered a Chicken alfredo Calzone.
The outer crust was thin and crispy. While the inside edge of the crust was soft. I could tell that it was made by hand and not store bought. The crust had a very basic yet elegant flavor, like you would get with homemade bread. The cheese on the inside was top notch as well. Flavorful and extremely stringy. The way cheese should be. The chicken was juicy and flavorful and all the other spices were superb as well. In summary this was the best Calzone i have ever had.
Then to top things off I tried a slice of their cheesecake for desert. The cheesecake itself was just a simple cheesecake. However it tasted homemade and was very flavorful.
All in all I would definitely return to the place again in the future. I am curious as to what their actual pizza tastes like. I guess i will have to find...
Read moreBeen going to Steve’s pizza for 20 years and notice a huge downfall this year. The servers on the main floor are constantly giving a nonsense statement of “we are rotating server out and need to move you upstairs” when there are open seats and booths in the main room and the front and the entire first floor back rooms are wide open. They move you up stairs to either a high table sports bar room or a “less than comforting” banquet room with a projector and tvs missing from the walls (which by the way are covered in dust to meet you when u leave the elevator. The service is also incredibly slow and they bring the food from downstairs and set it on a table in the hall way as people are walking by waiting a server to come pick it up. The banquet room is also very poorly setup and the sun shines right through the paper thin curtains on your face.
It seems to be some attempt to always look half full downstairs or an issue with the first floor back room, otherwise if they were worried about tip sharing they would just bring servers downstairs to the over half empty first floor, but either way we can definitely see things going down in cleanliness, maintenance and organization. Unfortunately we won’t be returning. Pizzeria Uno still seems to half their...
