Dunkin' — Restaurant in Pleasant Valley Township

My trip to Dunkin' on Middle Rd in Bettendorf was motivated by a few normal impulses and desires that come to me periodically - most notably, I was hungry for breakfast and this location was close to my home. It also is conveniently very close to my normal drive to work.

Upon arrival, the parking lot was almost completely empty. Indeed, most people do not go inside the Dunkin' to get their coffee, breakfast, or other libations/vittles(?) and instead opt for use of the Drive Thru lane. I guess I'm still just a little old fashioned or burnt out from COVID or otherwise just didn't want to eat in my car on this particular day. At any rate, the parking lot was empty and free of trash at the time of my arrival.

It is still kind of a shame that there weren't that many people eating in the restaurant space proper. The space was clean and generally we laid out. I generally expected this, as Dunkin' tends to look the same in most locations. This is really neither a plus or negative - it's a fast food establishment that comes off as standardized and spotless, both architecturally and sanitarily.

I ended up getting a side of bacon and some donut holes. Really no complaints there - both were exactly as expected and satisfied my breakfast cravings adequately. They also fuelled the further work I needed to complete on this particular weekend, so count this trip as both aesthetically pleasing and functional.

Staff who served me at the time were polite and helped with all questions I had. They were quite busy at the time, as mentioned previously there were people in the drive thru lane consistently through my visit.

Yesterday was complete chaos. I got there with only 3 cars ahead of me. I get up to the window after an already long, unexpected wait for only 3 cars. They don't know which order I am, then don't even have the order correct. I just needed 2 packs of plain bagel minis. We had the 2 drinks. They told me to pull around and they'd bring it out. So I do, and see the very first car from the beginning of the line sitting there waiting. I watched car after car pull around and park in all of spots waiting for their orders. Meanwhile, new customers are waiting in the line wrapped around the building... blocking in all of those cars that had to pull around. There were multiple attempts for employees to deliver food to the waiting cars, but they were never correct. The manager sat in the store doing paperwork while the chaos ensued. Eventually he gets involved and also makes delivery attempts with wrong orders. He comes to my car, I tell him I'm just waiting on 2 packs of plain bagel minis. He goes back in for a while. Returns and hands me my order and it's still wrong 🤣 At this point, it had been over 30 minutes and I wanted outta there. But we were all blocked in by the drive thru line. This is by far the worst Dunkin I have been to. I was there in the spring and had an issue with ordering a decaf and receiving regular instead. The manager finally reached out to me after numerous emails. She was very young and instead of offering me a refund she asked me how I would remedy the situation.. I agreed to come back and receive a corrected drink as a remedy instead of just a straight up refund. Big mistake. I came in roughly 1 month later and they had a new manager who knew nothing about this. Today was the first time I came back after all of that thinking maybe the new manager would have this place together better. NOPE! Sat in line for 20-30 minutes, ordered our drinks and mine again was made incorrectly. It was an iced latte that was 99% milk. The only thing they got right was the whip topping with caramel drizzle. I called immediately upon leaving and trying my drink (should have known to try before driving off). My number was taken and I am awaiting a call from the manager but this time I will not accept a new drink. Just want a refund and to never return unless they have new owners that value their business and their customers.
