Growing up in Bettendorf, I've eaten a lot of Happy Joe's. It was on the regular weekly pizza rotation in my family, we hung out at this Bettendorf location frequently in High School...I think I even had a birthday party or two here.
The space has definitely changed over the years. Gone is the arcade, the train that goes around the top of the main dining room, and many of the other features that I remember the space contributing to a fun, child-like atmosphere. In place of this are clear cut looking tables and booths, reddish beige walls throughout...generally the space looks like it grew up, just as I did (or was supposed to, at least).
The thing that definitely hasn't changed is the food and service. I knew exactly what I wanted on my latest visit - a pepperoni pizza on original crust. The cashier took my order, I paid, and I had my pizza within 15 minutes. It was exactly as I remember from years ago - the crust holds firm on the bottom, the cheese has a characteristic taste that only Happy Joe's pizza has...just what I needed at the time.
This location definitely has put Christmas in the metaphorical rear-view mirror though. It's only a few days into January and they have Valentine's Day stuff up, including some XOXO letters hung across the ice cream and a table adorned with a heart patterned table cloth, heart shaped plates, heart adorned cups, rose petals, and other Valentine's accoutrement. Definitely feels a little early for this stuff, maybe even a little weird that it's there in the first place, but it certainly was interesting.
I'm glad Happy Joe's continues to maintain their presence in Bettendorf and the greater Quad Cities Area. It's not always what I crave for pizza, but it's nice to have as an option when the craving hits. Thanks...

I grew up eating happy Joe’s. This has always been my favorite pizza. Unfortunately there have been some change is made. I have recently had frozen pizzas that taste better. This is not an exaggeration. Happy Joe’s has done a disservice to themselves. The changes they have made to the recipe is not good. You now need to order extra sauce extra cheese to get the equivalent of what was once considered normal. Don’t take for granted the fact that they will charge you for this. It doesn’t mean they are always going to give it to you even though they charge you. This was the case last night when I ordered my pizza. I did not get my extra sauce and extra cheese I was changed for. The pizza delivered to my house was absolutely subpar. I do not plan on patronizing this establishment again. They are not only serving subpar food but they are extremely overpriced for what you get. We have much better establishments in town that are a lot more reasonable in price. It is Sad that this quad city establishment has gone way downhill. I am a very dissatisfied customer....
Read moreI ordered online for pickup. I showed up a few minutes after my pickup time. I was told to pull forward as it wasn't ready yet. I had an elderly gentleman parked next to me. A few cars had passed through and received their orders. The gentleman next to me got out of his vehicle and walked up to the pickup window. It appeared as though they forgot about him. I sat patiently for about 20 minutes. Approximately 5 cars came through during that time and received their orders. I finally decided to drive back around. Of course to my surprise My order was ready. They acted as though they just finished it. My pizza was cold and the cheese was congealed. I was also charged for packets of tacos sauce. I ordered 20 of them. I received 4. I understand right now the world is short staffed. If you are going to have people pull forward to wait for their orders you need to make sure you're having someone follow...
