Whitey's Ice Cream — Restaurant in Pleasant Valley Township

After a bit of persistent urging I finally made my way over to Whitey's in Bettendorf for a little bit of a sweet treat..

I crafted together my all-time favorite sundae using their Cookies Galore (Oreos & Cookie Dough Chunks) as my base and topped it with a light application of marshmallow topping, M&Ms, whipped cream, and a cherry..

I advised the young man behind the counter that it had to be photoworthy and I think he did a respectable job, though it took me a minute to decide on a backdrop..

Anywho, I am happy to report that Whitey's is a solid choice for someone wanting a bit of sweetness in their life.. Everything in the sundae was deelish, particularly the Cookies Galore ice cream and it held just enough richness to not be bland but it also wasn't overwhelmingly sweet..

Someone once told me "if you didn't grow up with Whitey's ice cream, then you typically aren't going to have an appreciation for it," and I have to agree with that. Everything from the theme to the good customer service to the multiple​ accessible locations are great, but I'm just not in love with their ice cream. I think it's pretty standard and I'd rather go to Culver's. And my biggest gripe is their "shakes." When I hear "shake," I'm thinking of drinking an ice cream concoction through a straw. A Whitey's shake is the equivalent of a blizzard, concrete mixer, flurry, etc. They give you a straw, but I'm not really sure why... So keep that in mind if you are heading there your first time. Whitey’s Ice cream used to be similar to Hyvee in that they had exceptional customer care and timely service. Tonight we stood in line for upwards of 20 minutes simply to buy a quart of ice cream. Multiple groups of people passed by my husband, and I while we waited patiently to be rung up. To make matters worse, a friend of the employees came in and was expedited to the front of the line, capturing their attention and conversations. This occurred around 8:40pm and even the apparent manager was lost in conversation, while a line full of customers looked on.
