Our go-to Indian food restaurant closed up shop during the "pandemic" and we tried a couple of other places in the area that totally missed the mark. We pretty much gave up on ever having it again, but tonight I had a hankering and it needed some Indian flavors. I googled a couple of places and Northern Curry popped up in the results. After I reviewed the menu on their website (if you decide to order online, the menu is missing some items) I grabbed my guy and said let's give it a try. It was about 5:30-6pm when we arrived and there were only 2 other tables occupied, but the place smelled of delicious delights and we were ready to try. We ordered:
Samosa: they were perfect, crispy crunchy on the outside, tasty on the inside.
Aloo gobi matar: it had lots of flavor and veggies were cooked just right.
Chicken tikka masala: it was good, not great. It could have used a little more flavor, but I'd still order it again. The chicken was very tender. We were a little disappointed it didn't come served with plain rice.
Paneer Biryani: A flavor explosion in my mouth. Spicy, tasty, delicious. I loved this...we both did.
Hariyali chicken tikka: We didn't know what to expect with this, but O-M-G was it spectacular! It came out served on cabbage on a sizzling plate (like fajitas) with mint sauce. Honestly you didn't even need the mint sauce because the chicken was flavored so well. And very tender (cut with a fork). Did I mention it was delicious and the plate sizzled?
Cheese naan - my man liked it a lot. It did taste great but for all the food we had, plain or garlic naan would have been just fine. With that being said, an option for a sample of a few different naan would have been something we'd have taken advantage of.
I felt the portions were appropriate and we brought home leftovers for lunch tomorrow (or maybe a midnight snack tonight!) Overall I would give a 4.5 stars. I feel like I struck gold finding Northern Curry and I hope this place succeeds because I don't want to find another new...
Read moreThis is one of those family and friends giving 5 stars for the newly opened restaurant. Except ambiance, which also is questionable with pungent heavy cleaning chemicals smell the moment you open the main door to get in, is sub par. We are the first on A Sunday lunch at 11:30am.
The beard person serving has no clue and has no interested in answering any questions and avoiding the tables post dropping the food. None came by to check out after dropping the food, which by the way came out very fast as we are the only one there till 12:30pm. Not at all inviting.
Chilly chicken is made more like chines fusion. Taste is like 3/5
Fish pakora were bland and I have to sprinkle salt to make palatable and still searching for that zing! Well, it needs some chat masala to bring it to life ( eat the left overs at home for dinner with my own chat masala ). 3/5
Methi Chicken , it’s another bland no spice nor flavor in it. This is the only one the server recommended as I was inquiring to eat something in the spicy curry section . Rotis are thick and under cooked (check the roti edges in the pictures, which shows the brown atta under cooked). Taste is 2/5
Panner kathi role, it came with French fries and the only thing in all our meal was tasty! Kathi role is bland and no taste. No salt, nor spicy, well, you know the pattern …no flavor. One of those bring all ingredients of panner, onions , bell peppers together in a roll and nothing else to talk about. 1/5
I hope they would stay in bussines for long, but given the amount of Indian restaurants around and the diaspora of desi tastebuds, it’s says otherwise.
Nothing craving at this place to go back 🤷♀️
May be give another try with the chat section and see how...
Read moreFood was just purely pathetic! So we ordered: Pani puri- something was just fundamentally wrong with it. They gave us ketchup in place of meetha pani. Sev puri- pretty good Vada pav- the ONLY nice thing on the menu worth the money. Dal makhani- it was just cooked lentils with no spices. We asked for it to made spicy and they brought chilli powder and said "you can add it". Paneer tikka masala- we had to reconfirm that it was PTM as it looked nothing like it. It was super bland, again with NO spices- even your toddler would expect to taste some level of spice. Veg hakka noodles- it was SO bad that the saving grace was the Ching's schezwan chutney on the side. Veg fried rice- please PLEASE don't order this. This is the WORST thing we had. It was just steamed rice and steamed veggies with barely any salt let alone other spices. They said they were experimenting with it.
Overall- please don't waste your time and money on this place. We were misled by the few good reviews but I would save my money for some other...
