Jack's Seafood Boil — Restaurant in Pleasantville

Dined in at the pleasantville location a while ago but I forgot to review until now. Some small details may be off. Ordered takeout today and it jogged my memory.

The restaurant's spotless, which is very impressive when you remember they're a restaurant that sells food that is impossible to eat without some mess.

Speaking of mess, yes they sell seafood boils. That means your meal comes in a bag with your sauce of choice. Silverware is also available.

Yes, you're meant to eat it with your hands. Yes, you shouldn't wear a white tuxedo if you want to eat here. The table is covered in thick butcher's paper. They also provide plenty of napkins, disposabable bibs (Shut up, wear it.), and hand wipes.

If you're massive idiot and invited someone here for a business meeting, they've got you covered when it's time to shake hands.

The food was phenomenal. Some of the tastiest food I've ever ordered. The sauce was great and doubles as an impromptu dip for any appetizers that escaped the decimations. You may be tempted to drink it like a filthy animal, resist the urge until you're home like the rest of us.

The appetizers were really good. We ordered fried scallops, crab cake bites (fries included), calamari, and hush puppies.

All of them were fried to perfection, which is my patriotic duty to commend as a true American.

If you paused at the mention of crab cake bites and thought derisively "This idiot got scammed I bet they were 99% cake 1% crab lmao", I don't blame you. That is the entire point of cakeing a crab. Your cynicism will betray you here. These puppies have so much crab in them. The fries were an afterthought and even they didn't survive the devouring.

I've only ordered the house blend sauce. It's a mix of their other 3 sauces (Cajun + Garlic + Lemon Pepper), according to our waitress. It's hard to describe the taste. It's tangy and zesty with that savory Cajun heat and garlic complimenting it all. I can't comment on the other sauces. If you love garlic House + Garlic will make you cry with joy.

The staff were friendly and attentive. Everything arrived in a timely manner.

I'm literally only on my appetizer right now (crab fries) AND THIS PLACE IS SOOOO GOOD!!!!! 1000000% reccomend. I came at 9:10 and they still let me sit in to eat. These fries are amazing and a lot of places uses imitation for crab fries or Mac but this is real crab😮‍💨🤤 I've never had a seafood boil before so I am excited for it to come out! I will update if it will let me but I have no doubt that the boil will be anything but amazing! Place is so clean and fancy. Nice accommodating staff. Great food. Worth the drive from cape may.

Update Like I expected the boil was absolutely amazing!!!!! My first boil and I'm so glad I made the drive here. As u can tell nothing was left and what didn't make it into my mouth made it's way onto my cheeks and lap😂 I got the combo 4 because I love everything in it, but asked to get a 1/2 pound of crawfish because I never tried it. As I've never had crawfish before I didn't know how to eat them either. Not only did the nice server show me how to do it, she opened the whole 1/2 pound for me and wouldn't accept a tip for it!!!!!!absolutely selfless if you ask me! I got the mild house sauce and while it wasn't overpowering spice, it still had a bite to it which is exactly what I wanted and the server reccomended it to me. The service was outstanding, and they were very welcoming. Love love love the atmosphere and decor. Great place, great food, and great people. Can't go wrong eating here. All this only costed me $78 without the tip and I think that's a steal....

DO NOT RECOMMEND! BAD BAD BAD DO NOT EAT HERE! Food was absolutely terrible! Beyond terrible!! NOT worth the money spent!! Do not recommend! Crab was very very overcooked and food was cold! Fry’s were over cooked while the potatoes were severely undercooked they even had sprouts and were green!! Lobster was extremely disgusting, no flavor even when asked! Garlic butter is just minced garlic and oil! King crab was over cooked, to the point that the tendons shrunk and snapped! Overly dry food!!! Not to mention the noodles were very hard and undercooked! Rice was hot but again not cooked all the way and has parts that were hard!

Service was absolutely terrible, didn’t get drinks for over 20 min, didn’t get refills almost the entire dinner. Waitress didn’t speak much English!

Ohio has better boils than this place! Hook and Reel in Ohio is about half the cost for the same amount of food! On top of it being better!! Severely overrated, this place not worth the cost or the diarrhea afterwords from the food which was not...
