I ate here with my girlfriend, mother and father.
We shared the Ricotta gnocchi appetizer which was rich and full of flavor. It's texture however, resembles more of a Ricotta Gnudi rather than a gnocchi. My Caesar salad was industry standard. Parmesan crisp was chewey and slightly too thick, though.
My entree was a special that day; grass fed sirloin with farro, roasted hand turned carrots, a porcini butter and a black garlic paste on the bottom of the plate.
My thoughts: steak was served like a filet: large thick cut. Here is why that's unnecessary; if you've ever had filet mignon, you know how tender and easy it is to cut on the plate, sirloin doesn't eat like that. It can be chewy and gamey at times. My impression was that the chef was trying to resemble a cut of filet mignon without burdening his food cost with tenderloin prices...
The butter was far from melted and served no purpose except to make a rich farro butter soup at the end of my meal (keep it under the heat lamp longer or room temp your compound butter's). There was a citrus of some kind either spilled on accident or somehow wrongly incorporated into my meal. It didn't mix well with my farro, steak, or black garlic.
Atmosphere; dark. Too dark.. Music was slightly too loud. I had to speak at a volume that resembled a sports bar. Decor wasn't there, or it was but we couldn't see it because again, it was dark.
I've eaten here three times previously in the last three years. Winter, summer and fall. Now that I've had a taste for their spring menu I can say with completely confidence my take on Eighty Acres.
You are charging too much and leaving your guests with nothing to tell their friends. Nothing about this restaurant says, "come back and see what we have for you next week". I feel the same way when I leave Eighty Acres as when i walk out of my local Outback steak house, just another meal. The menu wasn't exciting or new other than they had removed the filet and replaced it with a flank steak since i was there in May of 2017.
I want to like this place, but it's charging too much and just not delivering..
1 appetizer 4 salads 4 entrees 2 dessers 1 Mule 1 Sangria
Total $162. What it felt like, $120.
Thanks for...
Read moreFrom ample parking to a great first view to the service to the eating experience, eighty acres was a delight. Upon entering, you will be treated to a view of the kitchen via a clever glass partition that gives great views of the meals being creatively prepared.
Our experience included lots of kind smiles from the staff, clear guidance in seating, and great service from our waiter- and it was during the busiest time of the evening dinner sitting.
Two of us started with lobster bisque which was made in a traditional New England style; very tasty with clear and clean tastes of lobster overplayed with just enough of a smooth creaminess to the broth. We enjoyed soft drinks, bottled and not too sweet from the recommendation of our waiter.
Meals included fresh salad with roasted chicken and a bison burger. Our meals came to us in a timely way, were cooked as desired and tasted fresh and delicious.
We were too full for desert but just had to try the apple caramel offering topped with vanilla ice cream. We tried Eighty Acres based upon a fellow foodies recommendation and were not...
Read moreEighty Acres is one of the most accommodating restaurants I have worked with. We recently had a wedding related luncheon there on a Saturday afternoon and our guests and I were extremely satisfied with the food, the drink, and especially the service. Planning for this luncheon of approximately 30 people was very easy. Andrew was my contact, and he was always prompt to answer any questions that I had. Don, the owner and chef, met me early the day of the luncheon so that I could drop off candles, pictures, and desserts; yes, they permitted outside goodies for special occasions. They were very cooperative when we rearranged tables and chairs to accommodate our guests. Missy, our waitress, was phenomenal. All drink and meal orders were promptly taken and delivered. She worked alone in a most efficient manner. Eighty Acres would be a great place for a shower, small gathering, funeral luncheon, etc., plus a quiet dinner with someone special. On Saturdays they open at 3 pm; we held our event from 12:30 – 3:00 pm. Truly a hidden gem tucked away behind the Burger...
