As pretentious as most of downtown Plymouth is, if you happen to find yourself here—you're most certainly in for a treat of the non-pretentious and delicious kind.
The first step of being able to take part in that treat is parking. If you're able to find yourself some parking nearby (which can be quite the task within itself pretty much any day of the week) then you're almost there. I will say that there is ample parking in the area, it just so happens that the area is ALWAYS super busy so no matter how many spots they have available you will almost always find yourself hunting and pecking for one of them. There are however two entrances to this establishment—street parking near one, and then a giant parking lot near the other. It doesn't matter what way you come in just make sure you find the hostess area so that they can get you service/seated as quickly as possible.
My girlfriend and I wound up here to meet a friend for a quick dinner bite. I honestly didn't know what to expect as I myself had never even heard of this place. We ended up stopping in here specifically because they have ample outdoor seating and that is what we were after. If you don't want to sit outside, that's okay too as there is ample seating indoors as well.
When you walk in, it might seem a little dark and to be honest that is what I like about the inside of this place. It looks very much like an upscale bar, it's clean (including the bathrooms), smells good, and has a very friendly and attentive staff. It does appear to be much brighter in my photos of the inside than what you will actually experience in person—but like I said previously I like that about this place. You will also notice a very large bar area, which happens to also be one of my favorite features of a good bar. You also have various seating options if you're planning on dining inside, which is also a plus.
I know, I know I'm finally getting around to what you've been waiting for—the food. If you've had a menu in your hand then you obviously know that this certainly isn't the cheapest fare in town—and there is most certainly a reason for it. I also always mention the fact that I am often skeptical when a food establishment offers a menu that is all over the place rather than just being good at one or a few different things, and to be honest with you I was pretty skeptical when taking a first look at the menu here as they do offer quite a large array of items. All too often when I am skeptical I end up getting proven wrong, and this is very much another one of those times. Between the three of us, we all ordered very different items from different sections of the menu, and they were all quite good. They also have a small garden out back which I am assuming gets used to supplement the vegetable based ingredients in some of their dishes (which is also a neat touch).
Even better than the food is the beer selection here, as they boast quite the collection of local, regional, and basic brews which in my book is always a good thing. Combine that with an overall tasty food selection and you have yourself a winner.
I will add one more thing in closing—being that with as popular as this place is I would certainly expect a wait if you come at peak dining hours (especially on weekends). Since you cannot make reservations here, I would advise to certainly try and plan ahead especially if you're planning on stopping in with a group.
If you're in the area and are looking for good food, fresh beer, and a great overall dining experience you'll find it...
Read moreCame here on a particularly hard day of the year for myself and let me just say they did NOT disappoint. I’m only now taking the time to write this review but that should be a testimony on how enjoyable my experience was and how memorable it was. The interior and outside eating arrangements were absolutely amazing. Very clean and I enjoyed the classy yet casual atmosphere it gave off and not to mention all the cool sport decorations. Great view outside, can’t even imagine how enhanced it is during the night time with the fireplace thingy they have and the lights draped across the area. After I took some time to view the restaurant I was seated and greeted with a warm and friendly welcoming. My server bless their heart made sure I was taken care of and did it happily. Aside from that stuff it was genuinely some of the most interesting dishes this type of restaurant would have available. They had plenty to choose from and honestly it was so hard to decide which yummy dish to go with. I eventually went with the E.G. burger and fries and as I waited I was surprised with free garlic bread sticks!! At the first bite could tell they were made with love and homely vibes!! Pairing that with the garlic butter they make from scratch I was in heaven. When my hunger came out, my amazing server came out, smile on their face and with that same helpful attitude I was first greeted with. My burger was of great portion and had everything I requested be on it. You assemble it yourself so you control the perfect amounts of each topping. Cooked perfectly and I can say for sure I will be back again for another! The only thing I was “displeased” about was the price of everything. My burger was I believe $15.00 plus tax so I wouldn’t say THAT was awful but some items seemed a little too pricey. But considering the quality of my burger and reading all the other lovely reviews, I can assume that same care is given with all their dishes. Moral of the story is if you are in Plymouth Michigan and want a quick bite to eat in an amazing town, look no further than E.G.’s! I will 10000% be back for...
Read moreAfter making reservations two days in advance I took my mother here for Easter Sunday Brunch. I was told on the phone that there would be a brunch served from 10a-3p. Upon arrival we were skeptical because there was NO ONE dining at the restaurant. No wonder... there was no brunch—just a few "add-on" items on the menu. Brunch means BRUNCH, not adding french toast and eggs benedict to your menu. When you have brunch at 11a on a special day like Easter Sunday, with a special women whom you don't see often, drive a distance, and are expecting brunch, a couple hastily added menu items will not suffice. Needless to say, most other establishments in the area were fully reserved and we left to walk the streets and try our luck.
Any restaurant in Plymouth with even a bit of planning and DECENT management could be fully reserved on Easter Sunday and do very good business. Instead, EG Nicks was a ghost town and had good customers walking away disappointed. Maybe someone who matters over there will see this review and understand why every other restaurant in the area had a great day and they were left counting pennies.
I really feel bad for the employees. They looked completely embarrassed and spent their Easter Sunday working (they have mothers and families, as well) and probably didn't even...
