I'm giving it a 5, but I'm rounding up just a little bit... You would never know this restaurant only opened a couple weeks ago. Service and service timing was excellent. Food was very good overall, but some of it could use a couple tweaks to make perfect (I feel). Portion sizes are generally large and excellently divided (see sandwich below).
Drinks: Beer and wine only - for alcohol - which is absolutely fine. Excellent selection of draft beers - about 10 or 12 - with a couple of "standards" and a great variety of craft beers (NOT all IPAs - which is awesome). They had one of my personal favorites on tap, that I never see on tap (Gunner's Daughter), so that was an instant win for me. I did not pay attention to the bottled/can selections or the wine list.
Apps/Sides: Had the pretzel, which was TWO pretzels, which were excellent pretzels. The mustard was good, and the "Pretzel Cheese" seemed béchamel-based and decious. Also had the Mac & Cheese (because it was a cold rainy day), and it was also great - creamy and delicious, but could have used a touch more tang/brightness to the cheese blend. (This might be a Me preference.)
Pizza: Had the Prosciutto and Olive - it's delicious, and we took home over half of it (because Pretzel and Mac & Cheese). Wouldn't mind a little more prosciutto and a few more olives, but who wouldn't! Definitely would eat again. Next time, I'm definitely ordering the Classic (because I want to try the Mike's Hot Honey).
Chicken Katsu Sandwich: The sandwich was great overall, and the chicken was very well cooked and delicious and huge (probably close to a half pound or so chicken breast). The additional ingredients fell a little flat though. I was expecting more complexity, heat, and brightness, based on the description. And, after re-reading the description for this review, I'm wondering if someone didn't leave something out, or accidentally used the wrong sauce (instead of queso fresco). The jalapeños and cucumbers were thinly sliced, and mild - I was expecting more heat from the jalapeños though. I didn't taste the cilantro at all. And I'm not convinced the queso fresco wasn't accidentally replaced with the Mac&Cheese sauce, as there was a distinct béchamel flavor/texture. Again, the chicken katsu sandwich was very good, it just didn't taste like the description, and I was expecting something with more brightness (queso and chimi), freshness (cilantro and cucumber), and heat (jalapeño).
I just want to point out that even though the sandwich wasn't quite what I was expecting, it was still very very good and I ate the whole giant thing. The side of fries were barely touched (but that's because I also had a pretzel and half a mac & cheese, and the sandwich was GIANT). The fries were hot, flavorful, well-seasoned, and the ratio of fry to sandwich was excellent - A LOT of sandwich, and a enough fries to satisfy, without drowning the sandwich in fries.
Will DEFINITELY be going back in the next few weeks and can easily see the Artisan Pig on the permanent place on the regular rotation.
Side note: I saw an interaction between the owner or manager (I think) and a customer who's takeout pizza order didn't get submitted, or was lost, or something similar, and it was handled very graciously and sincerely by the AP. Very well done.
Overall, the execution of the menu and service is well beyond what one would expect of a restaurant that only opened a few weeks ago. I'm looking forward to returning over the coming months and years to see how they mature, because I'm certain it's going to be...
Read moreLong Over Due review on The Artisan Pig from Oct 2021. Randomly ended up here with the wife and kids on our trip to Plymouth, MA. Searching for something extraordinary in Plymouth and yet classic? This is the place. It's very unassuming, clean, open, and family friendly! To start with they have an A M A Z I N G ! ! ! wood burning oven for the heart of their kitchen. This alone sets the tone and taste of their cuisine and the ambiance that surrounds it. The owner (Andrew & crew) then sets the bar for culinary excellence doing the rest with amazing fresh ingredients , and in-housed products.
The Classic Pizza: Pepperoni, mushrooms, peppers, & Mike's Hot Honey. The flavors & texture that amalgamated after eating a slice of this, gave my wife an euphoric tantalizing taste bud "high" sending chills down her spine. She's only ever once had that before (with Thai food). Now she's been trying to reproduce this high (chasing it like a fanatic at different restaurants w sweet, savory, & spicy foods) only with fail (and disappointment) every where else we go. The pizzas in general start with a canvas of a well slow fermented dough that is high heat wood burning oven cooked for a crust that has a S P E C T A C U L A R pizza char and lepoarding, delivering that desired bubbling, and smokey crisp with a hint of fermentation flavoring that you want in a slice of pizza. You can use a fork and knife if u want, but that's much like describing this meal to a blind man and letting him smell it instead of put it in his mouth. No! instead, grab, fold, and hold a slice with your hands to eat and you'll get that earthy organic feel of oneness to your food.
Caprese Sandwich w/grilled chicken: Fresh Mozzarella, Marinated Tomatoes, Basil Aioli, Greens, Balsamic Reduction, & Grilled Red Onion on a Telera Roll. The oven does for the flavor and char of this chicken sandwich what a Thermador does for a steak (only better), makes me wish that they did this sandwich with some sort of bacon, or grilled juicy red meat (but then they might have to change their name to Artisan Cluck & Oink, or Oink & Moo... ah but i digress). This M O U T H W A T E R I N G Sandwich truly comes together with a profile that hits great high notes in texture from the roll, to the veggies, and chicken, with the punch of driving flavors from the smokey chariness of the chicken coalesced with the Basil and Balsamic nuances, that deliver that tasty goodness leaving you wanting more after that last bite is done. *
Refreshing Ginger & Ginger Pilgrim: Both these ginger beverages were slightly larger than shot sized punches of GINGER Z I N G i n e s s !!! One delivering a minty-limey BANG, and the other a Cranbury-limeo ZOOM ! Need a little pep and immuno-pick-me-up. Here's a drink for u & it paired great w the above meal.
Piglet mac&cheese, Grilled Cheese: These are a high quality mac and grilled Cheese. Again done for kids, but the quality in the food, it's there even for the kiddo's . *
I tend to think, this is a place that the locals would go to grab a decent meal, away from all the hub bub, all in the meanwhile they're directing you to the typical tourist trapy headlining areas to eat on well advertised broadcast. Skip'em and go here instead, you won't be...

I went to this restaurant recommended by my niece whom had just started working there. She loved the desserts. We went back with my family to try them out and were impressed. We were happy to support her new place of employment. I went back twice and kept ordering the dessert because they are so good.
The second time I got desserts I got a hair in the sweet potato cheesecake and notified the waitress about it. She was very apologetic and I just said “I love your desserts, don’t need to make a big deal about it just wanted to let you know so you are aware of what you are serving”. I never asked for a refund, nor did they offered. I was ok with it because like I said, they have great food and awesome desserts.
Third time I ordered from there, I decide to order “To Go”and ordered three desserts ($40 worth). Went to pick the desserts up and when we got home to enjoy them, I opened the two boxes of the honeycomb cake and there was hardly any honeycomb present; there were only crumbs. It was very disappointing since the honeycomb is the very best part of that dessert.
I called the restaurant and the person that answered did not know what to do with the the issue; put me on hold twice and when I finally get the manager on the phone had to explain everything again. He finally tells me that he will talk with the kitchen to let them know what happened. Than proceeds to say he doesn’t know what else he can do for me. Then I said well I would appreciate getting refunded at least for one of the desserts, since they were not up to par. He said he would be happy to refund me and I appreciated that. However, it did not end there.
My niece gets a call from the manager, to ask if the person that called to complain is her aunt. She responded yes. Then he says “that’s all I needed to know” … what does that even mean? I am a paying customer regardless if a family member works there or not. Why would he called to ask that? That is so unprofessional.
It is very disappointing to be treated different. Is it because my family and I are not good enough for this restaurant? What else can I think? I really wish them the best in all they do, but really hope they teach their staff what to do when issues arise or a paying customer is dissatisfied with their service or food order. No restaurant is perfect but I have had better treatment from Bertucci’s when they mess...
