Hotel 1620 Plymouth Harbor

Positives:

We liked the location because we could walk everywhere we wanted to go and the ocean is a short walk across the street. The bed was comfortable and we slept pretty well. We also liked the TV and the fact that we brought our own Roku so we were able to plug it into the TV to watch our own channels without having to sign-in on another device. The lobby had a very upscale feeling.

Negatives:

They didn't have breakfast. The room didn't have a microwave, but the reservation described the room as including a microwave and refrigerator. There was a refrigerator, but when we opened the door, the shelves fell out. The shampoo dispenser was empty, but luckily, we brought our own. The bathroom appeared to be upscale, but there were a few bugs crawling around the shower, and there was some black scummy substance attached to the dispenser pumps. Our room was on the literal opposite end of the building from the entrance, and there were no luggage carts to be found until we got to the hallway our room was in. Our room was in the basement and caused our anxiety to flare a bit. It took 4 minutes to walk swiftly from the entrance to our room, one way, and since there were no luggage carts, we had to carry everything we had, which led to multiple trips. The furniture is unsafe. I wanted to put the small table (that had cups and the ice bucket on it) next to the bed so my partner could have a nightstand, but when I went to move it, the top of the table detached from the frame and fell on my foot. I was left with a bruise and some swelling and didn't think I needed medical attention, but the pain brought me to tears. The epoxy tabletop weighed approximately 20lbs and fell a from a height of about 28 inches. The lights in the room were not attached to switches, so we had to enter the dark, or dimly lit room, and find the switches on the lamps in order to get light, and the lights weren't very bright. The price we paid for a 2 night stay did NOT feel justified considering our overall experience. There was also no clear signs of when checkout was, and about 10:30am we were being asked by the cleaning staff if we were ready to checkout. It was also a very complicated place to navigate to because the parking in front of the building was only for the shopping center and there were no clear signs showing where to go or...

ROOM - we were very happy to see that the room was at least updated. I did read some of the recent reviews where guests were given rooms that were original from what felt like 1620. What grosses me out the most about any bathroom at a hotel is when the tub backs up. Well, that is definitely something that happens in room 144. I don’t know if it’s because the room was located sub-level to where guests check in but regardless - gross. Also, the fan in the bathroom was either nonexistent or broken. So after taking a shower, with used back up water pooling at your ankles, now when you get out everything is covered in moisture. LOCATION - that I will rave about all day long. Very walkable and bikeable to many restaurants, shops, waterfront, Mayflower II ship, park, etc. CHECK-IN process was, meh. After booking the room earlier that morning I arrived at the hotel to be informed my reservation could not be found - just what you want to hear after making over an hour drive with a child in the car. I find it to be embarrassing to have a check-in line 10ppl deep, get to the counter and be informed your reservation can’t be located. I had to provide formal ID, credit card, find original email confirmation and open the hotel tonight app confirmation all so I could prove my last name on the reservation (clearly my word meant nothing in this scenario). After finding the reservation, they contact housekeeping via a walkie talkie (again for all to hear) to state that I’m basically a last minute guest and a clean standard room was needed (I think that’s why the bathroom wasn’t in the best condition). SERVICE - overall pretty good. Staff is VERY friendly. The hotel was hosting ‘several’ weddings, in their words, that weekend so those guests were the priority. I did request an extra bath mat, as I mentioned the moisture in the bathroom was too much. I was told 15 minutes but I waited 35 minutes before contacting guest services again to request the mat be left at the front door of our room while we went out for dinner. OVERALL-We will rate the hotel 3 stars. My bf and 7-YO would give the hotel another try at another time. The pool has an interesting concept where it’s indoors and the balconies of some rooms look down to the pool area. We did get a peep show lol but you also get the feeling like very quiet creepers can be watching you...

Not a fan of this hotel for a few reasons. Mind you we got to the hotel just before ten. One when you reserve a specific type of room you should get it. That's not the case at this place. Reserved a pool side room months prior and when we got there was placed in a random room. When asked the person at the desk was not pleasant stating the pool is out of order. The only reason my wife reserved this hotel was for the pool. My 4 year old was devastated that he couldn't use the pool. She then handed us a business card and said talk to the manager in the morning. After returning to the room there was a odd smell coming from the heater/ac unit. I took the filters out and wow there was the issue. Completely plugged with dust and junk. Since my son and wife have terrible allergies I cleaned the filters in the bathroom. After replacing the filters.the smell was gone and the unit was much more quiet and powerful. I decided to take a quick shower before we went to bed. Well the shower is definitely made for shorter people. The shower head leaked at the base, causing water to drip outside the tub. The beds are alright I guess, but definitely not how I like a mattress. Even in the parking lot the signs are confusing to tourists. The only reason I gave a two star rating was due to having g a room to stay in. Just aggravated that there was no notification of the issue with the pool until asked the day of arrival. Would have went to another hotel. Will update after dealing with manager.

Update: Spoke with the manager Norma and she couldn't understand why we were given the room we were given. It seemed odd as the story changed twice before it was made right. The first pool picture down is the room we were placed in and should have gotten in the first place. My wife and son are extremely happy it was made right. Seems night staff does not care about customers and what they reserved. Gave the place 4 stars because of Norma fixing the issue...
