Update: After arguing with Randy on Facebook, he finally agreed to refund me. Since my boyfriend had paid for the ice cream, he went back in to get the refund. Instead of honoring his word, Randy refused, screamed at him, and even slammed his hands on the table. His own son had to push him in the back to stop him from escalating further.
Randy then claimed that since I made the complaint, I was the one who had to come in. So I did. What followed was a full-blown screaming match. Once again, his son had to physically push him to the back because he was completely out of control. I’m sure Randy felt real tough getting in a woman’s face and shouting “don’t come back.”
This man is an absolute weirdo.
Original post: Randy just lost my business for good. I’ve been to this shop several times and always get the same flavor, so I know exactly what it is supposed to taste and feel like. Ice cream should be creamy and smooth. Texture is just as important as flavor. This time it was filled with grainy, crunchy ice crystals that completely ruined it. Eating ice cream that crunches in your mouth is disgusting, and the close-up photo I attached shows exactly what I am talking about.
I was so disappointed that my boyfriend, who is literally the nicest, most reasonable person, went in to try to make it right for me. And instead of showing any customer care, Randy himself told him, “there’s no ice crystals in it, it’s the brownies.” Maybe his vision is not so good anymore since he is older, but the problem was right there and impossible to miss. No apology, no refund, just an offer to swap it out for something else as if that fixes the issue. It came across as dismissive and honestly insulting, like he was trying to gaslight us instead of taking responsibility.
This was such an easy situation to handle. A refund would have shown good faith and kept us coming back. Instead, Randy doubled down, and now he has lost loyal customers who used to actually enjoy this place. Very disappointing, and sadly, I cannot...
Read moreI live in NYC, home of some of the world’s snobbiest foodies. We are rightly proud of our pizza, bagels, pastries, coffee, sushi, and thousands of other delicacies. But I have yet to find any ice cream that can hold a candle to Randy’s. We tried his Bordeaux cherry, blueberry graham, lemon poppy, pecan, and dark chocolate; we were blown away by the intensity of the flavors. They all had a depth and richness that only comes from using a generous helping of quality ingredients- and knowing what to do with them. Sure, the prices are higher than other places, but considering the quality and portions, it’s a bargain.
The ice cream is reason enough to make the drive from NYC, but Randy and his staff were also extremely friendly and helpful. After we parked in front of his shop we heard a hissing sound and watched our tire deflate around a small screw. Randy was outside and immediately offered to help us put on our spare (fortunately the garage across the street took care of it.) Inside, his staff showed that they cared about our health by wearing masks, and enthusiastically answered all our questions. We can’t...
Read moreI’ve been searching for real homemade ice cream in the area, and I finally struck gold. I’m mad it took me years to come across this gem. This place is SOOOOOO good. Like 1000000/10 good…and yes, I consider myself a seasoned food critic (with elite taste buds) 😅. I tried the lemon poppy seed and pure Vermont maple syrup—both were next-level delicious. I even got a grow a pear 🍐 flavor to take home and my husband and son ate it all before we even got home 🤣. Every flavor is handcrafted in small batches using real milk and real quality ingredients. Not junk. You can taste the goodness and the owner takes pride in all his flavors bc HE makes them ! Not some franchise vendor or uncle Sam’s farm in PA.
I even told the owner I’d be telling all my crunchy mom friends about this place—because finding ice cream that isn’t made with weird chemicals and fake junk is a rare...
