The Side Door Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Pompton Lakes

Usually I do not leave reviews but this place had some potential when we walked in despite the awkward encounter the moment we walked into the bar. a girl friend and I just finished at the rage room across the street and were looking to grab a drink and quick bite so we thought we’d try Side Door. We’re not familiar with the area too much but we love dive bars. When we stepped in, there was maybe 3 or 4 older men at the bar, one greeted us “oh no there are women here make sure you don’t say anything.” We just smiled and took our seat at the end of the bar. We asked the bar tender if there was any food as she replied “i don’t know let me go check” meanwhile my friend and I looked and agreed and said it’s fine we will just have a beer and go elsewhere for food. As we took our hoodies off, it was 77 degrees or so and we were already hot from rage room, the guy that so pleasantly greeted us goes “are you ladies serious” making a comment as we’re taking our hoodies off. Immediately we’re uncomfortable. Like I said, it had potential for a beer. Been to this bar on Wednesdays and Sundays when a bartender named Shannon worked and she's fantastic, had a great time with great service. Went tonight on a Tuesday, and the bartender was incredibly rude, made derogatory comments about my appearance, and made nasty comments about my friend under her breath and continuously left with her friends for a cigarette break while stating she doesn't care that's she's not there. The Sidedoor is under new ownership, and I’ve already seen some really positive changes! It’s in a great spot, and they’ve started adding food and making little updates that make a big difference. The vibe is super inviting! It’s definitely a place where anyone can feel welcome.
