The Cardinal Cafe — Restaurant in Pompton Lakes

I will start out by saying the food is amazing and staff all but the cashier, I believe is the owner. CHECK YOUR BILL, SHE OVERCHARGES ANY OPPORTUNITY SHE CAN!! I questioned price one time and figured I was overcharged, ever since then this lady has been extremely nasty with me. I have continued to give them business because my wife and kids love the food. However, today was the last of it. I walk in and start placing an order, the waitress says about 45 min wait, she rushed over to tell her and me its 1:45min wait. I continue speaking with the waitress and assures me 45-50 min. I place the order. Around 43 min in i get a call food is ready. When i pick up the food i speak to the waitress who took my order and say glad it was 1:45 min. The cashier steps in and starts giving excuss as to why it wasnt that long. None of which has anything to do with me. I ask if i could give feedback and started to say i believe she is and has been angry with me and feel i do not get treated as an equal, instead of asking why she proceeds to flip it on me and say because I am nasty. She clearly just admitted that she treats me differently than all those i see her interacting with. I ask her for input which she couldnt respond to, i start saying why am i nasty, is it because she charges me differently eachtime for same exact order? Is it because she has over charged me numerous times, or because she refused to allow me to order kids meal for take out for my 5 yr old son meanwhile when i went to pick up the food, she was attending someone else and reading off the order which included a kids meal for takeout, is it because she attempted to charge me extra for a cup holder? None of which i ever mentioned to her. The real problem i realize however is that i have continued to support this business. Instead of talking through and showing she values her customers, she said she is busy and had nothing to say. This woman is nasty and miserable including towards her staff which i have seen the way she treats them and...

The menu and food looked awesome which is why we went. My wife had an amazing couscous bowl. The meal I got was overpriced especially for its size, $17.5 chipotle chicken wrap. All I asked for was swap pico de gallo for tomato and to add avocado on it. I asked if there was any pico de gallo in it because it appeared to not have any. Our waitress went to the kitchen to check and gave us an attitude that the cook certainly put that in my wrap. In my opinion it was just avocado with a little lettuce and overcooked chicken, the chipotle flavor didn’t come through. From the beginning she seemed stern and rushed us like we should get in and out. It wasn’t that busy. I really try to avoid writing reviews like this but hopefully the owners and server will see this and see this as constructive feedback. I know this instance was a fluke but it still does not excuse it...

This little cafe's got my love! I wouldn't call it a cafe per se; more of a luncheonette, as they close around 3pm. The ladies who work there are very attentive and friendly. My water and coffee always get filled.

It's a great spot for myself and a coworker to sit down for 20 minutes to have a quick bite to eat along with coffee before our shift starts. It can be chaotic during the morning rush, but it is organized chaos if that makes any sense. We get seated quickly and orders are taken promptly. The kitchen staff hustles to cook and our food is ready shortly thereafter.

Everyone behind the counter is in a fast paced environment. When they move at that speed, with a smile on their face while providing excellent service, they have earned my business! Watching them work gets me ready mentally for my day...
