China Star of Port Orange — Restaurant in Port Orange

We have ordered food from this restaurant for years. Since it plopped itself down next to Publix because it is only 5 minutes from our house. So I have to tell you...for us the delivery has always been incredibly quick. And ...the food has almost always been more than adequately good to eat and a wide variety on their menu. However...I just ordered 50 dollars worth of food including egg rolls, steamed dumplings, and a couple of mixed meat dishes and some fried rice. Our usual for a family of 5 or more at any given time. Usually very good and eaten up quickly. This time there was absolutely no flavor in any of it except for the steamed dumplings which benefited from the jarred tamarind sauce. Everything else was absolutely tasteless. Not even any plain old salt. I'm grateful for no MSG but come on...just some salt and pepper. Everything tasted exactly the same. If you're on a salt free diet and don't care about any other flavor...order from here. Must be a new and inexperienced cook. Always been good before...or at least edible. This was not. Had to throw it out. No one would eat it after a few bites. Waste of 50 bucks. Could've paid the water...

I've been ordering from this place for maybe 3-4 years. Every time, my experience has been good. The phone person has been helpful, we understand eachother, and the food was great. This most recent time, however, the food was not that great. When I picked up my order, I noticed that the containers they use for combination platters changed. The order person tried to say that even though it's a new package, the serving size is still the same...hell to the no--you don't go from over stuffing portion divider styrofoam to the very modest plastic lid container. They are charging the same price but giving less portions. The food, the oil they used changed for the worse, the vegetables were raw when they should come al dente, I asked for upgraded shrimp friend rice and was charged an extra dollar for 4 pieces of shrimp, and my egg roll tasted like it had been refried at least 4 times before coming in my order. Ridiculous.

I'll order again one more time to make sure that this wasn't just a one time fluke. But you guys will be losing old customers and won't retain any new ones if...

EVERYTHING IS MADE FRESH TO ORDER! The crab Rangoons were so good. I wish I'd ordered 2. I got the chicken stick & they were delicious. I also got the sesame chicken. So juicy & sweet. It was crunchy but soft at the same time. Spring rolls are crispy & light. They paired well with the sweet duck sauce packets. So yummy. The sweet & sour sauce here is homemade & so delicious. I heard they use fresh, hand squeezed citrus to make the sauce. I've been to other takeout spots around the area & it was gross. China star will forever be my place to find Chinese takeout. They also have the cleanest kitchen I've ever seen in a Chinese or American restaurant. You're allowed to dine in but it's primarily a takeout & delivery restaurant. The cashier was happy to answer all of my questions & concerns. Everybody that got their food seemed happy to be there. Looking forward to ordering more during this holiday...
