This is an interesting place. I've been here a few times, so here's my review. The structure and atmosphere is fantastic, but the overall experience of being at the restaurant falls short of what you would expect. As mentioned in other reviews, this place was great when it first opened up, it was fun, had great food, and good service, but now their standards have really dropped and it's a shame.
One thing this place has, that other chains have, is a decent reward system you can sign up for to get free or discounted food and drinks, which can be nice if you plan to come here a lot, if.
I would recommend coming here (if at all) during the cooler season and sitting outside to enjoy the sun and the view of the water. Otherwise don't bother. They play random music which doesn't fit with their theme which I find really annoying. They go from Spanish music to 90s rock, to Bob Marley.
They have valet parking for most of their parking with only a few self parking spots, so plan to pay extra. It's very unneeded for this location.
Their food is greatly overpriced for the taste and the portion sizes, which are medium to small. Three tacos will be anywhere from $14 - $20, and they are small tacos. They do have some okay appertizes that are decent. Also for the $20 - 30 they have a seafood selection that is okay, but for the same price, Catches is within walking distance, and their seafood is 10x better. Also, next door at the rum river tiki bar you'll find cheaper and better tasting, if not the same food as this Whiskey Joe's, and free parking. The main thing this place has going for it is the beach river vibe just outside with their nice fire pits and relaxing (kinda) hangout area. If only it was an actual beach like the Tampa location.
That location is entirely different from this place, The Tampa Whiskey Joe's, while many similarities, is much, much better across the board. I'd rate that one a high 4. This location just sucks. There are so many restaurants within a few miles that serve the exact same food. It's a shame they didn't try something new or build a restaurant here that offered something different, but nope. So is this place worth a visit? I would say no, there are better options, at least until they raise their standards again. If you're really tempted, come for drinks during happy hour. But watch their servers, they gipped us a few dollars out of our last bill for some odd reason and didn't bother to fix it. That sealed the deal for me personally...
Read moreThis was the worst resturant experience ever had. Nothing was right! I went with my mom, grandfather and uncle. We came to get some gator bites and fish tacos because there always great! When we got there we sat outside and there was only 3 other tables with only 3-4 ppl per table and the bar wasnt even half way filled, so it wasnt busy at all. It took the server 15 minutes just to come get our drink order which was only 2 bottles of beer, 2 waters and a miami vice. It took 20 mins and forgot the water... and then my miami vice had absolutely NO alcohol in it and all it was a squirt of strawberry puree at the bottom of the cup and then filled with virgin pina colada......thats not a Miami vice. It's supposed to be a strawberry daquri and pina colada mix! WITH RUM!
So finally after she brought our drinks we ordered gator bites with the sauce On the side and a side of ranch. She immediately walked away before. I could order anything else and we kept looking for her to order more but then 20min later she comes out with our gator bites and they were smothered in the sauce that I did not want at all!! So my mom bit the bullet and we jus ordered another round and her and my uncle kinda picked at it.. So I proceeded to order a fish taco with corn salsa on the side and a side of mango salsa(nothing to crazy or hard to do) So another 20-30 mins pass by and we get our gator bites the way we ordered them and my server brought me chicken tacos instead of fish which I made extremely clear to her I wanted the blackened Mahi tacos! I was so dissatisfied and disappointed I lost my appetite! I was to scared to even try to order something else cause I couldn't take another mess up!!!! Worst resturant experience ever especially for how expensive everything is.....you'd think you at least get 1 out the 5 things order would come out right..but guess...
Read moreRaven our server today 9.4 at 2:20pm tried to (and did) scam us out of our change so we would leave an additional tip on top of the $18.76 in change she kept from our bill. We left the "beach" part of the restaurant at 2:20pm. Our total bill was $81.24 both my husband and myself watched counted (5) 20's, $100 to pay for our bill. When she took the cash she too spread it out before closing her hand asking if we needed change. Husband says yes can we get a receipt too? She says she'll be right back. Raven walks away for a few minutes before returning and saying "actually there is no change because you gave me $80 so you're good" like she was doing "us" the favor of us not paying the "$1.24" sets down the receipt and quickly disappears. Both my husband and I looked at each other and I'm like yes you gave her $100 I watched you count it. He's like I know, that's why I asked for the change.
If it was an honest mistake you practically ran away from our table disappearing for us to be able to confront you so I can only assume Raven was trying to pull one over and expect us to tip on top of what she already kept from us.
Very shiesty behavior. I get times are tough but to blatantly lie and act like a coward and disappear before either of us have an opportunity to say something.
Definitely won't be back again. And I recommend everyone paying with your card to avoid this in the future. And for the record 18.76 is an appropriate tip to be left on an 81.24 bill, however we always ask for change and a receipt because we write it down in a ledger.
Edited to add** Atmosphere and food were great however severely disappointed in our...
