This is definitely the best pho I’ve had in Portland and let me tell you, I’m Vietnamese and my mom makes incredible Vietnamese food including her pho.
This is most reminiscent pho to my mom’s which is a huge compliment. I think a big part of why it’s so good because it comes in small batches. Make sure to get there earlier because they do sell out sometimes with that being said.
They rotate between usually 2-3 options of soup per day.
I went on a Saturday for their Phở Annam (wide rice noodles in a beef broth, seasoned round steak, and beef meat-ball. Garnished with green/white onion, coriander leaves, and cilantro) which is essentially a wide noodle version of your basic Pho.
We also got the Goi Cuon or salad rolls and they were fresh and the sauce was delicious. Take note they don’t use the traditional parboiled pork but I ahead use char siu which I didn’t mind.
The atmosphere is very clean and trendy. A quaint and small spot this place packs a huge punch in flavor. Their marketing is modern and fun and the music is 🔥🔥🔥.
Their entire family all work together to run this place and you can taste the hard work and love in each. You’ll generally see mom, dad and their sons and girlfriends helping out alongside the other siblings and friends of the family. They’re all super friendly and welcoming as well.
Highly recommend to anyone looking for a great bowl of Vietnamese soups or even...
Read moreDo👏 Not 👏Sleep 👏 On 👏This👏 Place👏. This is a gem in PDX's food scene. We didn't do the soups (that's their main gig and go early bc they sell out) but we did their late night and it was SO GOOD. We got the wraps, veggies, and two cocktails.
Atmosphere was intimate and inviting. They have tables for dates but also the ability to accomodate a party of 10 (which we saw when leaving). Mood lighting and a nice updated interior made the place feel comfy! Everyone from the chefs to the hosts and servers were so kind and made you feel so welcomed.
The greens were fresh cooked, not overseasoned! The wraps (we only got 3) were so filling and they give you a seperate plate to dip the wraps in which made it even that more special.
But let me tell you, THE DRINKS. Any place that can do a good clarified milk is a must in my book. We got the jasmine milk tea (which had the clarified milk) and the dac dac dac. They were so good, not overpowering, but strong enough thay you felt it by the end. Plus syrups made in house? You know they aren't skipping on quality.
I would say really well priced considering the quality of ingredients they use. I hope this place continues to grow and if you're visiting from out of town, pls pls make...
Read moreÂn-Nam VL deserves all the love and best wishes it can get. If I wanted my loved ones to experience authentic Vietnamese soups, this would be the place I'd take them. It didn't feel like a typical restaurant; it felt more like being invited into someone's kitchen, where family cooks for you.
Having grown up in Vietnam, I can vouch for the authenticity of this experience. The menu is refreshingly unique, with only 2 or 3 soup options available each day. While some might lament the limited selection compared to places with extensive menus, the benefit here is that every ingredient is fresh, ensuring you're not eating days-old food. It's an eye-opening experience in what fresh food truly tastes like.
I'll leave it to you to judge the food, but I can say with certainty that the service is beyond exceptional, exceeding a perfect score of 100%. Both the owner and the waiter are incredibly charming, always ready for a pleasant conversation that enhances the dining experience. It's evident that the owner has poured her heart into this restaurant, and I believe it shines through in every...
