My friend recommended BM sandwich. So we drove across metro from west to east Portland. First experience was not a good experience. We ordered 3 bánh mì, special, meatballs and grilled pork. One bánh mì made wrong, instead of meatball we received Chinese char sie. I told the owner of the mistake and immediately she told me I ordered wrong and insisted that I was wrong and not their fault. Too bad for her, I always love to eat meatball sandwich and absolutely hate char siu and of course I never order char siu sandwich. On top of that, they over charged us by $1.25. That is not much but I don't like to be cheat at. Maybe, they just made a simple mistake there. Since we paid cash. It is hard to prove it without receipt. Good honor business should not immediately accuse customers of wrong doing. I'm rarely complain or write review if it very bad or upset me greatly. I was looking forward to have a good lunch but was insulted and made me angry. We only ate special and grill pork sandwiches, both are ok, nothing standout. Will give a taste review for meatball sandwich, VNese steam pork sausage, steam pork/sneil sausage and bake shrimp/spicy rice patty. I hope this is not their normal business practice. Will give another shot when I'm in that area if the rest of other foods are good. Recommends to ask for receipt to know what you are paying for. We didn't ask for our receipt but the total we paid is higher than the sum of all items...
Read moreI wanted to give this a higher rating but it fell short for me mostly due to service and portion sizes
Tried getting a mixed meat sandwich, and after clarifying that it was meatball and BBQ pork (paying for extra meat $2 which is ok) she gave me 2 separate sandwiches and it was supposed to be no veggie but she gave me veggies on both. It was only supposed to be 1 sandwich with extra meat, mixed meatball&BBQ pork with no veggies. The stew was absurdly small for $13 but she requested we do to go only since it was 1hr until closing.
The flavors of all of the meats were good and the flavor of the stew was good. Considering all the sandwiches had extra meat but it still felt like it was lacking in volume, I would not have paid $9 for that sandwich. The stew was very flavorful but there was only about three pieces of meat and it was in a pint size soup container. If we would have eaten inside, the stew looks like it comes in a bigger container, which if that's the case I think I would pay $13.
Overall, during the ordering process and trying to clarify what kind of sandwich we wanted, she kept saying yes, okay, but then messed up the order.
Considering I had to drive 35 minutes to get here, I would stick to the one that is...
Read moreThe vegetarian bahn mi from Binh Minh, is absolutely AMAZING.
Here's a tip:
If you're eating them at the restaurant it's great if they toast the bread (they aren't as good un-toasted). But if you're bringing them home to eat I would highly suggest you have the sandwich made...but not toasted. Toast it at home for a few minutes in your oven or toaster oven. Otherwise, if you have them toasted at the restaurant and bring them home to eat they will be overly crunchy (the texture of the bread will resemble a cracker, rather than freshly toasted baguette).
But that's not a complaint. It's just like if you make toast...you put the bread in the toaster, and eat it when it comes out of the toaster. You don't toast bread, wait a few hours for it to get cold and dry, then eat it; because that's a recipe for croutons not toast.
If you're super hardcore, you can even scoop the insides of the sandwich out and put it on a plate whilst toasting the bread (because the vegetarian sandwich isn't usually hot inside when made at the...
