September 2023 update: Pandemic annoyance - most pizza places have pivoted to a 4:00 PM opening time. For me, one of life's great pleasures is a slice or two for lunch. Baby Doll is, happily, still open at midday, making me very happy when I'm driving around in inner S.E. Portland. A great deal of comfort can be found when cherished traditions do not change. Aside from lunchtime service, additional amenities include indoor seating, outdoor seating, and a highly efficient to-go operation. There is a large indoor dining space, separate from the counter area, decorated with pizza box artwork on the walls, as well as stacks and stacks of boxes waiting to be filled, which I consider to be a delightful form of art, in and of itself. Street parking in this neighborhood is much easier than other parts of the city where by-the-slice service tends to be found.

Excellent to-go experience. I called in an order, and it was available for pick-up at the time they quoted me. The lobby was well marked for a limited number of customers being inside at one time. The promptness of the order impressed me largely because they were BUSY. They had a large crew cooking and ringing up orders, and I was pleased to see the cashiers regularly checking with the people waiting outside, to make sure that nobody was standing on the sidewalk while their pizza was inside, starting to cool off. Just as it was before the pandemic, the pizza itself is delightful. We went with caramelized onions and sausage, and were very...
Read moreI used yo like baby doll but quit going there because there are a couple really pretentious unfriendly guys that work the front counter. Like entitled to be sassy and unfriendly, as if your troubling them to order or privileged to get their nonservice. I just went in after months of avoiding the place because of this and low and behold dude was unfriendly ( apparently annoyed that i requested a specific piece) then forgot it in the oven burning , then i said ill take a cold piece , and he sarcastically says " anyone ?" with bitchy attitude. No hi or thank you after tipping nothing the whole time just annoyed attitude, meanwhile the other guy similar to him in attitude , with the long hair ( another incredibly pretentious unfriendly one and one of the main reasons i quit going in ) I just talked with a cool kid used to where but quit cause he said he was burned . Point is some really cool people there but the couple really entitled to be "sassy" and unfriendly pretentious guys suck . Straight from new york on belmont ,people are nicer in general, thats why i go there. don't like leaving bad reviews unless i run i to really annoying kinda pathetic acting people, then i say something. I work at a restaurant and have worked in food service for years . i know bad customer service and bad customers. im not just being bitchy...
Read moreFirst time customer. Drive by allll the time, as an uber driver, was curious. Portland has a LOT Of pizza places. A passenger recommended last night, so I stopped by today, with my 20 year old daughter. Outdoor tables, cool, dark interior. Lots of pizza options, generous sizes. Two slices, salad, sprite and two small cans of wine. Not a fan of counter service, but I get it. Lowest option to tip was 18%, ok, fine. I was told they would open first can, but i couldn't take second unopened can to table. No eye contact, no glass. Um, ok, get that as well, I have an alcohol service permit and Oregon is is EXTREMELY strict. If you're a tourist, be AWARE. (((Sigh))) it's 80, I'll be done w can one b4 the pizza gets to the table, but... again, fine. I go back to counter, second can is opened, I pour into my plastic water glass and start to walk away. Counter guy grabs the empty can, snorts (disgust, pique, IDRK?) SHOOTS around me and drops it into the recycle bin. I apologized, said I didn't see the bin. Good food, service was ??? Sorry, there are unwritten rules on ounter service, I'm still learning and every single place is slightly different. But I know bad attitude and I hate it. Eye contact, smile, explain the rules. We might not know. Don't assume and, please, don't treat me like a lush, annoyance...
