We had been wanting to try the Clam Bar for a while now, so on our way out of town we pulled in. It was a beautiful day but the Clam Bar is open rain or shine and has plenty of covered seating. The atmosphere is very clean and friendly, featuring brightly painted tables and umbrellas.
We shared the clam rangoons- they were perfectly fried and the dipping sauce was sweet and sour with the perfect amount of spice. I would highly recommend trying these!
The crab cakes were beautifully fried and served with a red pepper sauce as well as lightly dress arugula. I we thought it was a great combination of flavors. The crab cakes seem to be corn meal based and not breadcrumb. The flavor was good and the texture was nice but they were a bit different than we were expecting.
The fish sandwich was amazing! Let me start with the star of the show, the fish. They use Hake, which was so moist and tender. The batter was so crunchy and just like everything else, perfectly fried. They top the sandwich with a little slaw and a tomatillo tartar sauce. This gave even more crunch and flavor. I would definitely order this again and again. This was one of the best fried fish sandwich’s I’ve had in a while and they are a go to menu item for me.
Compliments to the chef. The food was prepared perfectly.
The bartender that took our order suggested a strawberry lemonade. It was delicious!
I will definitely be recommending this...
Read moreDate of Visit: Tuesday July 2, 2024 Fresh seafood in a beautiful location in Portland. We spotted this little Clam Bar on our way into the city of Portland and decided to make it our lunch Spot for the day. The Clam Bar is a fun little roadside shack-style establishment on the side of the road. There are several little cabins and picnic tables where you can sit and enjoy your meal. The Staff working are very no nonsense – but in a fun way. They are very engaging and entertaining. The kind of owners I appreciate. This is a place where you decide what you would like – and place an order and pay. She then hands you a pager and it will go off when the food is ready for pick up. We ordered: Steamer clams, fish sandwich, & Clamroll. The meals were all very tasty and fresh – and well presented. The Steamer clams with Brisket broth come in a large bucket with crusty bread toast. The atmosphere is very lovely – while not waterfront – you can see water. But it is well decorated and many covered areas to protect from sun.
There is plenty of street parking.
This is a lovely spot to stop and enjoy a delicious seafood meal in a beautiful environment with...
Read moreI went here for the first time tonight, i was dining alone and spent $70 on a fried clam basket, "chowder", and two beers. Let's start with the chowder witch is described as "light" and "skipping the milk and cream" it was bacon water with (I dumped it out and counted after the first bite.) 3 clam necks, one sliced belly, 5 potato pieces, Celery, onion, and 11 Pieces of bacon. It came with a "big crouton" that was a toasted king Hawaiian roll, that practically dissolved in the bacon water.
Now, the fried clam basket. This came with fries, coleslaw, and "a pint of big belly clams" what I received was a ball of over cooked, over salted, rubber bands. Now i know it's crazy to say "they where practically inedible" then say "they where no where near a pint" but they where terrible, and the portion was not as advertised. Then fries that where either pulled early and not re-fried, or just rushed to the plate.
I would never recommend this place to anyone, it was awful, that people working where nice, the atmosphere is boatyard meets seaside cafe. If not for the food, this...
