The Chadwick is a breath of fresh air on our trip. Before we arrived, we were receiving texts and updates about our stays. Definitely read the fine print on your check-in link. (It’s hilarious and written with wit!). The texter was very responsive to questions about the area, so we already had a plan upon arrival. Check-in was seamless and easy, with our key and some notes about our stay waiting on a table just inside the coded door. The room has a tv, with several streaming options, a remote controlled ac, a clock with wireless charging. The house is peaceful and a nice respite on our trip. We vacation like we are on The Amazing Race, so a much needed slowdown. The dogs are very welcoming and spoiled in great way. They absolutely are waiting for a treat and a petting. Well, to be honest, I think they only allow us to pet them to receive the treat. But we took the opportunity as often as we could. We slept like royalty and the room is very quiet. After a nice shower in a large walk-in dual head shower, we were greeted with the smells of breakfast rising up the stairs. Downstairs we were met with hot coffee or French press, tea, water, etc. Erin met us quickly with our 8am breakfast, that began with a yogurt with toasted pecans and cinnamon. That was followed with a flavorful Spinach Eggs Benedict and a mandarin orange and pecan salad. Erin and Lily were the only ones we met. Erin is so pleasant, funny and welcoming. She provided lots of local information that helped us capture as much as we could in our single day passing through. The only regret we had during our stay was that we didn’t know what a gem this B&B would be. We wish we had planned a few more days in Portland and at The Chadwick Bed and Breakfast. We would love to visit the area again someday, as this was our first trip to Maine and the New England area. And we know exactly where we will stay if we do.

Stayed at The Chadwick early May 2025. Experience was outstanding! Room was comfortable and well-appointed. Fresh flowers in vase was a nice touch :-) Breakfasts varied daily between savory & sweet and as excellent as web site made them look. Erin is a creative cook and I can truly say I enjoyed every one breakfast. The Chadwick is on the historic register. While location is near a medical center, noise from same wasn't terrible. Walking to the West Promenade and seeing the magnificent old houses (and ancient cemetery) was a diversion when I might have otherwise been bored. Walking to downtown Portland attractions not for couch potatoes; easily accessible by ride share or public transportation. Parking downtown can be both hard to find and expensive, not a fault of The Chadwick, just what it is. The three Huskies are quiet, well-behaved and enjoy treats. 10/10 recommend. If I were to visit Portland again, The Chadwick had availability, would stay in a heartbeat.

If I could just say “stay here” and leave it at that, I would, because part of the charm of the Chadwick is how often I was surprised by the thoughtfulness of the entire experience. A review feels like a spoiler, but I’ll share some insight on this magnificent B&B to make your decision of where to stay easy. From plentiful snacks, delicious breakfast (one of the key reasons I chose the Chadwick was all the photos of food), adorable dogs that await your arrival in the kitchen, and an absolutely marvelous host named Erin, the stay here was nothing short of phenomenal. Also, I’ll never forgive this place for making me miss their bed more than my own. The bed was easily the most comfortable bed I’ve been in other than one I slept in while visiting Switzerland 10 years ago. In short: stay here.

The Chadwick in Portland, Maine was simply divine. My wife and I have stayed at a handful of B&Bs along the east coast and this was easily our favorite. Starting with the hostess Erin, we felt immediately comfortable around her & welcomed. She made us feel as if she would never be intrusive or an over-sharer like some B&B hosts, but would love to help us in any way we desired. The common spaces were pristine, clean, cozy and inviting. The dining room was quaint and cute, complete with a well-stocked fridge of options from yogurt to seltzer water to chilled wine. We enjoyed the electric kettle available to make our hot chocolate each evening and were sorely temped each morning by the french presses available to make rich coffee at our leisure, not to mention the temptation to grab one of the homemade cookies every time we passed the dining room! And that is just a description of the first floor! We stayed in the Abbott Room and let's just say that when we put our bags down and sat down on the bed to take it all in we immediately wished we were staying more than just two nights. The bed was easily the most comfortable bed we've ever slept on and we have since tried to replicate that luxury at home! The decoration was tasteful and warm, there was additional seating and glowy sunlight streaming in through the windows framed with cream curtains. THEN the bathroom. We loved the renovated bathroom, the modern shower and available shampoo, conditioner & body wash. The sink and vanity were just perfectly designed to fit the space. It felt like a luxury waking up both mornings and getting ready at the Chadwick in our Chadwick bathrobes to go enjoy the absolutely scrumptious breakfasts downstairs. We highly recommend this B&B to anyone in the area! It was walkable to a couple of parks, places to eat/get coffee, and right at the edge of a gorgeous neighborhood. We will definitely return if we make it back to Portland and envy anyone who gets to take a trip to the Chadwick! Thank you SO much, Erin for making our babymoon more luxurious & comfortable than...

I cannot say enough positive things about The Chadwick and its owner, Erin. From the moment you walk in, you feel a warmth, and a sense of peace. For me, The Chadwick was not just a "B&B", it was a home away from home while my husband was in the ICU. A truly anxious individual, especially when it comes to traveling to a location I've never been to, this was a difficult time for me for many reasons. From the start, Erin was kind, compassionate, and so thoughtful of what I was going through. She is an angel on Earth, I am forever grateful.

Located within walking distance from the hospital, cute restaurants and more, The Chadwick is a MUST STAY when visiting Portland. The rooms are beautiful, comfortable and lovely. The bathroom was very modern with an amazing shower. Amenities were thoughtful and personalized. I felt like I was really taken care of during a time when I needed it most. The decor is eclectic, classy and beautiful.

The food is INCREDIBLE. Erin outdoes herself. Every breakfast was delectable, using ingredients from local suppliers when possible, and very imaginative. She also accommodates dietary restrictions as needed. I'm a fairly picky eater and I LOVED everything that Erin lovingly made for us. Her crepes were to die for. Truly outstanding, breakfasts you would expect at a high-end restaurant in a big city.

The charm, love and kindness just radiates throughout the Chadwick. Erin is just the sweetest, most down to earth woman. She and her family have done a beautiful job with this Bed & Breakfast. And, being a major dog person, I loved being able to meet her 3 huskies! They were adorable and very sweet. I rarely write reviews, but I needed to take the time to do so because truly, The Chadwick is the best of the best. Don't...
