Cocina Los Girasoles — Restaurant in Portland

I’ve been to at least 10 carts at the Eastport Food Carts pod and this cart is the best of them. Last time I was there, I had a carne asada torta, and it was probably the best I’ve ever had—packed with flavorful meat, but I was intent on giving several other carts a try.

Tonight, I went back and tried the keto tacos: 2 veggie, 1 chicken, and 1 carne asada. $3.50 each. I can say that those were probably ALSO the best I’ve ever had—even better, because these were genuinely unique.

The keto tacos are perfection. The shell is fried cheese. It’s the perfect texture, has great flavor, and even though I got them to-go, traveled home, and put my groceries away first(!), they were STILL HOT and held up without breaking. All of them were amazing, but the veggie combo was deftly designed and worth bragging about: grilled zucchini, mushrooms, bell peppers, corn, fresh avocado, and cilantro. There was also a very much appreciated pile of caramelized onions, sliced radish, and lime on the side for all the tacos. I eat a lot, so four was perfect for me, as they were smallish, but dense. When my friend invited me to try tacos at a tavern, I was initially skeptical. But, trusting his judgment, I gave it a chance - and boy, am I glad I did! The moment I walked in, I was impressed by the cleanliness and the friendly bartender who had great taste in music. After catching up, my friend recommended a few tacos and a quesadilla, and I was blown away by the incredible meat selection. I opted for three chorizo tacos, one al pastor, and a quesadilla de asada. The food arrived swiftly, and the cook personally delivered it to us at the bar, accompanied by a variety of sauces. From the first bite, I was hooked! I devoured the tacos, drenching them in sauce, and then dug into the quesadilla, which was so large we had to share it. We overheard someone raving about the pork belly tacos, so we had to try them too. The pork was tender, and the veggies were incredibly fresh. SEE YOU TOMORROW! I visited the store to pick up a Uber order. While I'm waiting I see O.G. the Husband/owner I believe, on the grill with this juicy meat. They playing oldies but goodies, Low Rider music, and when the Wife/owner I believe, told me it would be a few minutes before my Uber order would be ready, I hurried up and asked the Misses, if I could try two tacos with shredded beef, she acquiesed, with the works. When I make to my car, I opened the box, and the first thing I saw were these caramelized looking onions, then the tacos, I only had 2...I got 4 nice bites out of each, with a pinch of onions. As soon as I was done, I remembered the sign on the wall..."SEE YOU TOMORROW"....I saved the address in my maps, and the next day from the time I woke up, I planned to be there for lunch, but I needed 3 this time with the rice and beans...the rest is history.
