Speedboat Coffee — Restaurant in Portland

Today was my first time at their new location. I love their coffee and will always give them my business. The new digs are clean and more open with a very modern aesthetic. The coffee is as good as ever!

Unfortunately, it was not the experience I was hoping for. I was overwhelmed by how loud it is- nobody was being loud, just the acoustics of the room are such that when there are several people speaking at normal volume it’s incredibly loud. So loud that my partner and I had to put our faces right by each others ear’s and yell a bit to be heard. We couldn’t even hear when our drinks were ready. I was also really hoping for a more cozy space, somewhere inviting where I could come get snacks and coffee and read my book- instead they have steel chairs and hardwood benches, nothing even with a cushion, leaving me feeling very uninvited to spend much time there.

Overall, still 5 stars, but I really really really hope they will consider doing something about the acoustics and getting some more...

Speedboat coffee is a very cute coffee shop. It has the classic homey feeling that I love in a coffee shop. We got chai tea lattes and they were delicious. We also got some GF treats that were made by the owners mom. They were delicious, however my partner has celiac disease and had a reaction to them. I do not fault the business, accounting for celiac disease in gluten free foods is difficult because of the cross contamination and even needing to use separate cutting boards or other utensils. This is by far the best coffee spot in the Foster-Powell area, not only for their quality coffee drinks and pastries but also because the staff has always been so authentic, kind, and sincere to every single person who comes in. They always ask after my day, show excitement for my plans, make amazing reading/watching/listening recommendations, support local artists, hold space for social change, and truly foster a real sense of joy, which is a radical act these days.
