Don't bother with expressing your thoughts when the staff check on you and things are not good. If it's negative the floor staff will dutifully ask specific questions and bring that back to the cook who gets annoyed and makes their staff come back as as silly questions like "have you eaten sweet and sour before"? Uh, yes just three times this week at different Thai restaurants. Try the sweet and sour at Esan or Bangkok Palace and know your place in the literal food chain Your "sweet and sour" has no distinction between the two flavor profiles. It tastes mildly like pickle relish. The sauce is thin and tastes like the mild pickle relish, the chicken (if you order the chicken) has no flavor so it's just protein matter sitting in thin weak pickle relish water along with all the other ingredients. I had also ordered it hot and I didn't even feel the slightest of spice heat. The Tom Yum I'd asked for mild ended up being hotter than the entree which was fine.
I had about five bites hoping something would stand out but they didn't so I pushed it aside and finished their Tom Yum which they do a good job at. My total with the Iced Thai Coffee, small Tom Yum and the terrible main of the Sweet & Sour stir fry was $20. Nothing was offered to change my dining experience and nothing was removed from the bill. I tipped 20% for the unfortunate floor staff and left.
This place is unfortunate. Their hours keep changing, they will shut down for a week without notice and while they have several other items that are at least good the people in charge don't seem to care. It's places like this I don't lose a tear over when they...
Read moreI am not very adventurous when it comes to Thai food and I have a pretty mild palate so I was apprehensive at first. My friend loves it here and said the spicy menu and wine list were groovy. I went with the Crab Cream Puff appetizer which was golden fried to perfection. My confidence bolstered, I made a foray into their delicate yellow curry with tofu. A little heat and a ton of flavor combined with carrots and coconut milk, spices, potatoes over rice...mmmm. I had mango juice to drink and it came with a festive little flower. The staff is polite, and always smiling. I met one of the owners, Tim. He and his wife and team have created a very special space where authentic Thai cuisine and Portland charm have met, married and are living happily ever after. They are closed on Mondays. Please call for specials and...
Read moreI have been to several local that restaurants in my neighborhood. On this occasion we went out for Valentine's day dinner. We had decided to try something new. Being as it was a typically busy day I had expected the same at the restaurant. We walked in and we're seated right away. Mind you, we did get there early, around six. Timing was perfect. Had we waited there would've been a wait. The menu was as most that places are. No real surprises though. I had the nights special of stir fried chow mein Paradise with shrimp. Medium in spiciness. It could've been a bit spicier. The flavor, texture and aroma was fantastic. We decided to definitely return. All of the food was wonderful. A real joy. It...
