I am a consistent Yelper and have yelped about this relatively new coffee place, but want to rave even more. How good is it, well they just opened another establishment on SE 12th and Salmon, but this is for the SE Division location.
I want my house to decorated like this with wood, terraneums and a high end comfy couch which I am told is from designer in Los Angeles. I want my baristas to all be like this in PDX -down to earth, coffee knowing and smiling. No Portlandia snobbery here. They serve my two favorite local roasters, Coava and Heart, but they also carry something dear to my Michigander heart, "Madcap" coffee from Grand Rapids, Michigan. You must try and take a bag to brew. I never have a problem finding space to work here. The sun comes in through the glass surroundings which is nice for those many not so sunny days in PDX. They have canelles from Frice pastry in PDX. I feel like I have been transported back to France. I had been looking for these since I had them not only in France, but Campinelle in LA. I have found...
Read more(This perspective is from a visitor from Seattle) Nice third-wave roaster. Prices are a bit more expensive than in Seattle, but tax is already included. Espresso was $3.50 but they give you the option between two origins. The filter coffee was a single origin coffee as well, which is surprising. Lattes were $5.50-7.00, depending on the size and type, but are seasonal. As tax is included, this makes the lattes comparable to, say, a Seattle Starbucks, making the lattes a good choice (uniqueness and value) for anyone who needs a suggestion.
The particular espresso I got was Peruvian, with notes of cherries and almonds. Very smooth and bright. It was pulled very well. They offer sparkling water upon request.
Single origins beans are pricey, in the $17-20 range for 10 oz. I've heard that coffee crops have gotten more expensive lately for a variety of reasons, so maybe this is typical now. Their cheapest beans are their normal and decaf blends, coming in at $16.50 and $17 for 12 oz., which actually isn't bad. If you are in the area, I recommend...
Read moreStopping here for a drip coffee to go. The roast they were serving was excellent and fresh. I had the same problem here that I’ve had at other coffee shops (for example, Courier Coffee) in that the paper cups they use are flimsy. They fill the cup to the brim When you say “no room“, but that makes it very difficult to keep the coffee away from the junction of the plastic cap on the rim of the paper cup. As a result, the paper softens and the top comes off easily. The only way I could actually drink this coffee was to pour about a fourth of it Into the gutter. This is no reflection on their service or the quality of the coffee, only a notation that they share this problem of leaky cups with other...
