I was so excited to visit the first Stumptown after visiting multiple locations across the US. After roadtripping from Florida, I arrived 4 minutes before close - just enough for a quick cappuccino to go and a sticker. I say, "good afternoon!" With a smile, just to be met with a cold "what do you want?" I order. "Hey, do you have any stickers?" "Over there, just so you know we are closing soon." "Yeah, I drove all the way here from Florida, just excited to be here and wanted to get some merch!" Kept my smile. Got my cappuccino. Poured straight into the cup, no foam, no latte art, just lazy and careless. Espresso tasted decent. I think people forget that sometimes they are the first introduction someone gets to a city. This was the worst welcome. I wouldn't want my shop represented by people who clearly don't care about the coffee or the customer. If I walked in at :59 it would be one thing, but I didnt. I wouldn't recommend this location to anyone local or otherwise. Better off trying somewhere else.

Had a really pleasant visit to Stumptown Coffee Roasters. The staff was super friendly and welcoming, which instantly made the experience better. I asked about the seasonal drinks, and they took the time to explain the options and recommend their favorite. I went with the iced cherry vanilla latte, and it was as delicious as promised. The shortbread cookie, unfortunately, missed the mark for me. It had an odd, eggy smell and taste that I just couldn’t enjoy. On the other hand, the hot matcha was excellent. I usually go for iced, but I’m glad I tried it warm this time. The café itself is clean, cute, and filled with natural light, which made it a great place to relax. Would definitely come back!

Without a doubt, one of the very best and most professional shops in Portland. Why? Well for starters, I go out to coffee at coffee shops about 360 out of 365 days a year. I first moved to Portland two years ago and immediately began traveling all over Portland-proper to try out the shops I like best. I quickly gravitated to Stumptown on Division for the following reasons:

  1. Although it can get extremely busy and the service area is a bit small, this never seems to rattle any of the highly professional staff. Each and every individual who works there makes excellent cappuccino and other drinks as well.
  2. The amiability that I experience there on a daily basis is extremely important to me. I also see this as they interact with multiple other customers, regular and irregular.
  3. The atmosphere and ambience. I love listening to music that was selected by people with good taste in music, and vinyl specifically. This good taste in music represented by the staff is a beautiful way to start my day-even if it's not something I'm a huge fan of. In particular, Matt, West, and a few others love to put on a record or a well-curated playlist which is never too loud and never too soft. Although the owner's should put a bit more attention and thought (and money) into the sound system. Rebuttal: I have read many of the negative reviews and have experience a lot of these same types of people as customers while I'm there. They are often entitled and out-of-touch with both society and show a distinct lack of consideration when dealing with other people in the world, much less with people in the food and beverage industry. I've seen particular workers called out negatively for the most inane reasons, so I'd like to highlight a few of the current employees who are also the reason I come here daily. Matt, Cacia, West, Conrad, Audreall, Evan, Maxine, and Ed. From the moment I began coming here two years ago, every single one of them have treated me with nothing but the utmost friendliness and respect. However, please remember that people who work in jobs that provide us things such a food and coffee have their own problems and may not be having the best day themselves. At least they made it in to work. The world is not here to serve you, but rather, you are here to positively interact and better the world. Try not and not make the world a...

As a coffee drinker, I had to jump at the opportunity to try a local coffee roaster while in Portland. They have a variety of roasts to choose from, but I had to go with one of their most popular, the Hair Bender. It's has a very good mid-range roasted flavor and just the right amount of kick. Of course they have a variety of different roasts to cater to different needs and preferences. There is even cold brew when you don't feel like a hot beverage. Stumptown coffee has its own unique flavor just like any other roaster, and it's certainly nice to be able to have something that's different from a big chain like Starbucks. Their coffee is a little more expensive than I expected, but still not unreasonable. Coffee does seem expensive these days though.

The coffee shop itself is spacious and clean and the staff is friendly. There is plenty of space to sit and enjoy your coffee while doing homework, studying, reading, or just surfing the internet. They also have their own private parking lot so you don't have to worry about street parking. If the shop is inconvenient to get to, their coffee is also available at the grocery stores around town...and apparently at the airport just in case you need that last minute fix before...

I go into this place every single morning. There is 1 person who actually cares about the customers. She is so kind and appreciative for your business. However, the red head male behind the counter will not speak to certain people. Every time I’ve watched him interact with a gay customer (including myself) he WILL NOT SPEAK. He’s not the only one. There’s a brunette woman in there as well who simply doesn’t want to be there. Every single day I tip them. They will not say thank you. It sounds silly on my end to keep trying, but as a fellow former service worker I want to do my part to show thanks! I’ve been in with my partner and it’s even more prevalent. I don’t understand why you’d give someone an ugly face when they tip you. I will never go to this place again and my coworkers will not support a place that can’t treat gay folks the same as they do every other patron. This is the problem we have in Portland- the passive aggressive thing. This is unfortunate but I can spend my $5 per cup somewhere else. After today, there are 6 less of us regulars coming to Try Good Coffee right...
