Without a doubt, one of the very best and most professional shops in Portland. Why? Well for starters, I go out to coffee at coffee shops about 360 out of 365 days a year. I first moved to Portland two years ago and immediately began traveling all over Portland-proper to try out the shops I like best. I quickly gravitated to Stumptown on Division for the following reasons:
As a coffee drinker, I had to jump at the opportunity to try a local coffee roaster while in Portland. They have a variety of roasts to choose from, but I had to go with one of their most popular, the Hair Bender. It's has a very good mid-range roasted flavor and just the right amount of kick. Of course they have a variety of different roasts to cater to different needs and preferences. There is even cold brew when you don't feel like a hot beverage. Stumptown coffee has its own unique flavor just like any other roaster, and it's certainly nice to be able to have something that's different from a big chain like Starbucks. Their coffee is a little more expensive than I expected, but still not unreasonable. Coffee does seem expensive these days though.
The coffee shop itself is spacious and clean and the staff is friendly. There is plenty of space to sit and enjoy your coffee while doing homework, studying, reading, or just surfing the internet. They also have their own private parking lot so you don't have to worry about street parking. If the shop is inconvenient to get to, their coffee is also available at the grocery stores around town...and apparently at the airport just in case you need that last minute fix before...
Read moreI go into this place every single morning. There is 1 person who actually cares about the customers. She is so kind and appreciative for your business. However, the red head male behind the counter will not speak to certain people. Every time I’ve watched him interact with a gay customer (including myself) he WILL NOT SPEAK. He’s not the only one. There’s a brunette woman in there as well who simply doesn’t want to be there. Every single day I tip them. They will not say thank you. It sounds silly on my end to keep trying, but as a fellow former service worker I want to do my part to show thanks! I’ve been in with my partner and it’s even more prevalent. I don’t understand why you’d give someone an ugly face when they tip you. I will never go to this place again and my coworkers will not support a place that can’t treat gay folks the same as they do every other patron. This is the problem we have in Portland- the passive aggressive thing. This is unfortunate but I can spend my $5 per cup somewhere else. After today, there are 6 less of us regulars coming to Try Good Coffee right...
